Have any of you ever done it? I went for the first time today, to start the screening process and do my first donation. yay! and I got cookies and a donut and apple juice, which they +insist+ that you have afterwards You are allowed to go get free donuts and cookies every 56 days where they take 450mls of blood. They told me that if they use my blood, it can help up to three different people (like maybe a premature or sick baby, someone with cancer, a burn victim, someone undergoing emergency surgery etc.) Not too shabby for someone who hates needles so much
Great stuff, hope you enjoyed the cookies I remember going in once too, but the sent me back, coz I was just a week under 18 then
Give a thing of blood when I give platelets every 2 weeks, only thing I don't like about giving platelets is that it takes about 2 hours. -Michael
Wow! Cookies & a doughnut & juice??? Last time I gave blood I got a mini muffin & weak squash. Still - I guess it is the helping ppl bit that counts
I'm a blood donor - got lots to spare. I figure that all it costs me is half an hour of my time, when it could have great benefits to the recipient.
My first time was three months ago, I just mist the last blood drive because I was sick, but I will go in next time. I plan to give 4 times a year. I found out my blood type was (B positive) which I thought was funny since I am quite a pessimist.
My daughter boyfriends gives blood when they allow him. But my daughter try giving blood and she went stone cold with blue lips an all.
ooops - maybe it was right after her period so she lost lots of blood in few days and this was the reason for the pale face after donation ? or might just that she was scared doing it I did donate like 4 times (they love my O class blood) and never felt any pain or anything
in my country, i went to hospital for blood donation to a 1 year old baby, but they didn't accept, because of low hemoglobin
I go and donate blood regularly also. I'm also trying to get on the marrow donor list, but it's not easy to get on the list!
I've done it once, couple of years ago and still remember when doctor told me she won't take my blood because I'm weak but I insisted and she agreed to take 250 ML, I didn't feel anything (no weakness) at all. Maybe I'm strong lol Keep on trying that and one day you will be on the list
