    It is real currency. (Oops...see edit below)
    Not just 'gold color', but real gold :)

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Edit: The US used to have many competing currencies:
    "Prior to the Civil War, many banks in the United States issued their own paper money. Banknotes carried a promise to pay the bearer on demand in gold or silver coin -- as did Federal Reserve Notes until recent decades." -source
    Now we have great fear of such competition:
    "Then on Tuesday, March 20. 2007 Liberty Services, the organization that promotes and distributes the Liberty Dollar, has filed suit against the U.S. Mint in U.S. District Court in Evansville Indiana to enjoin the government from claiming that the use of Liberty Dollar is a 'federal crime'. It is not a "federal crime" to voluntarily use a piece of silver between two consenting adults."
    No, it's a collectors item.
    This might work, good luck :)
    That's funny. They more or less are on the money with the $1000 face value.
    $1000 for 1 oz is waaaay too much
    Canada mint recently released a gold "coin" the size of a manhole cover. Now that's one I'd like to get. Apmex is selling them
    Gold is at multi-decade highs. Better way to put it is to say that dollar is at multi-decade lows. God punishing FRN hoarders for doing business with Federal Reserve. Inflation=stupidity tax
    The best part of it, that place is within a walk from my home. Well close enough.
    Its a cool company, they've got the right ideas.
    Every decade has a tacky item that people like to collect. In the 1990's it was collector's plates with depictions of NASCAR drivers and Princess Diana. In the 2000's, it's collector's coins with depictions of presidential candidates, Corvettes (with working headlights, I saw a TV ad for it last night), and even the World Trade Center towers (the towers pop up out of the coin - the company got sued for claiming they were made from silver found at ground zero). At least the Ron Paul coin will hold some value over time, since it's made of real gold. The same cannot be said for my Michael Dukakis bobblehead doll.
