It doesn't hurt your site, but it does have an effect on the page you are linking to by denying it the "vote of confidence" from your page.

it will hurt your domain not the site no follow really is a general description of book mark site they represent this type of seomnship online"

the best thing about social book marking is it will show up in the serps but the key words will be no follow so now you can start book marking all your blogs and content after every blog post this will get you more views:eek:
again no follow sucks but don't misunderstand the meaning and what they represent" they are all over the net your web site has the follow tags the book marks don't :eek:their you have it"

Aaron, it won't hurt the domain at all. And as I've said before, rel="nofollow" is just a means of legitimately hiding a link from the search engines that you don't want to be followed (like temporary pages for example).

It also has no effect on bookmarking pages other than preventing the search engines from seeing those links, which means as far as they're concerned, the links don't exist.

Oh, and one other thing. Don't hijack my thread with your topics about social bookmarking (which you happen to be wrong about anyway), which has absolutely NOTHING to do with this topic.

Do it again, and I'll drag a moderator in here.

Yes Kailyn, I do have an update in the works. I've just been inundated with work as of late, so I'm trying to get that done (and paid so I can continue to keep a roof over my head) before I tackle this thread with the next major section (and yes that does partially explain my drop in activity here over the past few weeks).

Tell me by what these so-called professionals mean by "SEO Overkill" and I'll tell you what I think of it.

Dan Schulz heres the content! I found read up

Last week, Mike Murray, Fathom SEO’s vice president, led off the SEO Overkill panel at the Search Engine Strategies conference in Chicago. After telling attendees that that can ruin a good idea by trying too many tactics too fast, he reminded them to stick with the basics. Good keyword research, page titles, META descriptions, content and sporadic link building goes a long way.

Although he doesn't say much in that blog entry, what he does say is pretty important, and if you haven't noticed Aaron, is the theme of this thread. KEEP IT SIMPLE, (well, you get the idea). It's called the "KISS" prinicple for a reason you know. :)
