Yahoo Optimization Tips

Can anyone offer or point me in the direction of some tips for optimization for Yahoo? Most SEO tips only cater to Google, but I'm looking for ways to be more friendly with Yahoo and so far all I can find is black hat suggestions of keyword stuffing, and geocitie redirects. Just looking for some decent information, white hat preferably.

maybe answers to some of these questions?
    • What Yahoo values?
    • Yahoo Rank - does it exist?
    • backlinks or keyword density or both?

Thanks for anyone who can weigh in on this, especially if they have some stats or facts to support it.

Current SERPs in Y! suggest more than on-page factors such as trust level of the site and its age. It's getting more googlish thesedays. IMO

optimize your site's meta keywords and description
    Code (markup):
can you explain this a bit, optimize it as in keyword stuffing? keyword density? keyword dense copy for the description?

It doesn't look like it picks up on keyword density in the copy because I have a site that ranks for terms that are mentioned only once (terms that don't show up in the url, domain, or anywhere else - and these are highly competitive terms on google). People seem to have a good understanding on Google, but Yahoo seems to be a huge question mark to me - maybe it's because Google now outranks all other engines with 60+% as of August 07, but Yahoo seems undertapped except by spammers - so it would seem a good way to get some traffic.

    Hello,

Use H1, use your keyword in the title, meta description and in the first lines of your page...

So far, I'm not getting any visitors from Y!.

If I optimized my site for Google, my site is also optimized for Y! Am I right? If not, is there any good read for optimizing my site specifically for Y!?

For the most part yes, if you optimize for Google you should be fine in Yahoo.

From what I have seen the difference between the two comes with how they handle links, not on-page factors. Google loves anchor text and ranks links depending upon PR. Yahoo on the other hand still does both of those, but the anchor text seems to be less important and the quantity of the links is more important.

I think it really is, since I have a website without good back links and it stands on first (sometimes second) position of a good keyword.
It shows my page's meta description when you search.

Yahoo counts keyword density much more than Google does, but just like Google, Title and Backlinks are the most important aspects

Yes, Yahoo is more on-page than Google, and MSN even more so than Yahoo. BUT, on-page is only going to get you so far. Links are the key to big moves.

Now, it is also worth noting that Yahoo (like Google) loves big "authority" sites, but where Google places a lot of weight on outbound links, Yahoo seems to really love the sites themselves. What I mean is, if you have a new site and you are trying to rank for a term that is also being ranked for by an established "authority" site, it is going to be difficult even if your links and content are marginally better. Thus you see a ton of parasite pages (public pages on authority sites like MSN Live or Squidoo) ranking very well in Yahoo.

Good tip, Yahoo does seem to give more value to these tags.

Be sure to also optimize your title tag and use header tags in your content. Include keywords in your anchor text of links. Then get plenty of inbound links.

Avoid site wide links and keyword stuffing.

One good tip is to get your site mentioned in yahoo answers, you can log onto it and answer a question relating to your site and put your site in the resource list, which should help with indexing and traffic generation for your site.
