I can't always be around the computer when I post, so I modify the timestamp on my posts so they Auto-post. My question is, when does the ping occur? Does it occur when the time on the time stamp happens? Or when I save the post with the edited timestamp.
I'm pretty sure the idea behind the ping feature in a lot of blogging software, especially the one in Wordpress, is that it's supposed to ping when ever the article is published or updated.
My understanding (I'm no expert) is that WP sends the ping when the "publish" button is clicked...even if post is dated in the future. There are plug-ins wp-cron and wp-cron-future-pings that address this.
OK, I nstalled the plugin, now it's just a matter of figuring out how it works, and if it works. I wrote a post and edited the timestamp then hit "publish" and it went through and showed up in my RSS reader right away. My next post I will "save" instead of "publish", and mark it as published and see what that does.
Hi! If anybody can tell me about this... I am also looking about this thing only...but from the above posts I wasn't able to fiqure out anything... I want like I publish future dated posts by editing the timestamp in wp....then I need to ask that when does the ping occur.... does it occur at the moment I click on publish button thr...or does it occur when the article in published on the blog i.e the date written in timestamp..? and if it does'nt does this..i.e it pings right then, when I click the publish button..is there any way in which I can have future dates posts in my blog and also they ping the same moment when they are actually published on the blog, (the date which is written in timestamp) Thanks in advance...
I'm using Qumana and observed that my postings are stored in their servers before postings on the intended dates and times. Despite their links at the bottom of my posts, I'm happy with Qumana.
means according to you... you just put some articles in the database of qumana beforehand... and your articles are published on the date you mention...and also the ping occurs too in the date of publishing of article online..? Can you show any example website??
Here's the gist from WordPress.org: "If you have scheduled future updates, they should be pinged as the values in post_date arrive (as of Version 2.1)" See http://codex.wordpress.org/Update_Services Earlier versions used to ping them all at the time of publishing, but the newer versions have fixed this. Pinging happens when your post is published, either by hitting the publish button, or when a scheduled post is published. You can also change what services are pinged by going to the "Update Services" options under the "Writing" settings in your Wordpress administration panel.
