I have a feeling there's somewhat of a "the sky is falling" fear lately since all those big directories got hit by google with some sort of penalty. correct me if i'm wrong. Did everyone else have a drop in paid submissions to regular directories? I already know the bidding directories have stated this.
You just have to check the latest links to see the difference. The whole industry isnt doing as well, although the high ranking dirs. that wernt penalised seem to be doing well. Just go to sitepoint marketplace and look how many people are selling their directories. people are running scared...
Yes, This is the main factor. Previously i used to buy links but now i am just waiting for the PR update to get finished.
Not a good time to sell either - with this much uncertainty there are not going to be offers. As soon as PR is updated or disgarded we will know. I think the Directories networks and blog networks will be hit. Individual Directories and Blogs not so. Stop the PR interlinking as I think it will hurt all your sites.
Well at least the directory submission service's seems to be doing good. My sales have increased alot the past few weeks. I think this mostly affects paid directories. And my free directory hasnt changes too much lately, im still getting the same # of submissions everyday.
Have faith and things will return and improve soon enough. im working towards a niche directory and working towards getting 2 past directories that had some unavoidable probs a few months ago, up and running again. Im going nowhere and neither should fellow directory clan, stay strong. PS: "Im going nowhere" could be read in a pessimistic way, but i mean positively offcourse.
People who are submitting for "quality backlinks" and traffic are still submitting to the directories..
I just had someone cancel a 6 month subscription that they just started but in another of my directory I just got a subscription so I to am just waiting to see what will happen and will be glad when things get back on track
Il ask myself... My answer: I enjoy providing a quality and legal in all countries resource for anyone to visit that is suitable for anyone to use. Because i intend to grow my directory and intend to add and better the resource and provide something that expands and grows and continues to be useful.
And , if the actions of a 3rd party change the business landscape , requiring you to attract submissions entirely based on your directory's own merits un adorned by , shall we say fairly misunderstood "pixels" would you continue,
Many wont. Hard work, honesty and commitment don't come naturally but there will always be someone willing to take their place as they drop of their perches.
