This myth has been around for so long, people actually believe it. I will write a longer explanation for the benefit of the community some time later. For now a short version will have to do. An increase of what you call "a high number of bookmarks during a short period" does NOT warrant any site being flagged as spam. Many sites around the net receive an increased number of links over short durations due to various reasons. Hitting the front page of social bookmarking networks like digg, reddit, furl, etc. or other popular sites like slashdot, major online versions of newspapers and others, will direct hundreds of new links to a site. Google and other search engines do not spider each and every page on the net every day. Therefor, the increase in number of links is not detected in such a linear manner. Google and other search engines do not perform a delta between previous and current number of inbound links every day for every site in their index. You don't have to be a SEO expert to know this stuff, a little common sense is enough. Stop spreading the FOG when it's not due!!!

All links coming from the del.icio.us domain, I don't have any info about IPs. They use huge server farms. Basically, you have the link name (which leads to your site) and tags. I never managed to hit the character cap on the number of tags allowed. I do not expose my accounts since it may jeopardize this whole deal, customers get a sample of a few accounts their link was submitted to. users are registered under various verified email addresses.
