in my opinion, sitename.com/post-title-(postID).html is a better option

    I've gone for

    /%postname%/%post_id%/

seems to be the best solution for me. It means no URL will be the same even if an article/post is named the same. I think this is the best URL structure from an SEO perspective with wordpress.

Anyone have any comments on this?

I use month/title; that way i'm protected in case I give to posts the same title months apart.

    Cheap SEO and Aaron,

They are not talking about a plugin. It is a configuration setting in Wordpress. I think it's under one of the options pages....

Having month first is not as good as your page title. I've heard that with the more folders you have (in your example, the virtual folder "month/"), less PR strength is given to those. I think Google limits at 3 folders.

So if you had a link like mydomain.com/year/month/day/article/ it would be really weak from a search engine perspective.

Having your page title closer to the root domain gives it more importance. Therefore, mydomain.com/pagetitle/id should be stronger (if i am correct). It will also help you fight against having two urls the same as the id will be unique. What if you post two pages with the same title within a month? Or on the same month of a seperate year? Your safety technique will be broken.

Hmm, maybe I should write about this on my blog?

Have it shortened, the keywords in your URL can be easily crawled if your URL structure is shorter.

I've read alot that structuring your site like : /%category%/%postname%/ is also a good thing. Does anyone agree?

yeah I prefer /%category%/%postname%/ among others. it seems cleaner to me, and readers will always know they're in certain categories. also it looks more organized. just my 2 cents

I believe this link structure is both organised and ensures you won't get two links with the same title: /%category%/%postname%/%year%

Unfortunately, on my blog i use an even more complex one. Guess i wasn't that smart when i started it.. And now, i can't change it anymore..
