    Can somebody please tell me how to put meta tag for description of the site. I am having a blog on the blogger (blogspot) and want to put description about the same. Also could you please tell me what benefits would I get in terms of search engine optimization by putting a description and what would I be losing in case I do not put the description meta tag in my blog..

    Actually metas this day are worthless as the SEs don't use them anymore but you can put this metas in your blog... :D

    Here's how to put it in new blogger:

    put it after the <title>...</title>
    <meta content='your keywords here...' name='keywords'/>
    <meta content='description of your blog' name='description'/>

    Actually, this is true for the keyword meta, but description is used by Google. Proper description is essential for good SERP. anyhow, I use this tool to analyze my meta :

    LOL- where did you get THAT idea? I think you mean the "keyword" meta-tag, which is true for Google, however, some smaller engines still use them. In any case, while it has in fact depreciated in terms of it's overall relevance in relation to what it used to weigh, the description tag is still important.

    this is something what I use for writing a description of a website... Write your description in a descriptive manner using keywords from user point of view and without spamming it with keywords.. that you can do it in keywords meta tags....

    Meta tags are not considered by the Google. Hence from the google point of view it is useless.
    However, some small SEs do consider meta tags, so do not ignore them.
    Some members have already shown you as to how you can add meta tags. Go ahead. However, meta tags is on page optimization factor which is not going to improve your rank greatly.

    I would say meta keywords is useless but meta desscription still useful. It's not hurt to add them anyway. ^^

    I don't use them for my sites, just let google pick it as it sees fit. Seems to work better than some older sites I have.

    Meta description tag is located in the <head> area of your site’s HTML code. I think it is important coz it help search engine understand what your site is all about. And considering the number of your keywords, relevancy and density w/n the description tag might help you achieve the #1 position on SE.:)
