Someone should write "The Social Contract for Dummies," since (by design) most people these days don't have the attention span to read the real one.

" The US is on a path to economic Armageddon. Shorn of industry, dependent on offshored manufactured goods and services, and deprived of the dollar as reserve currency, the US will become a third world country. Gomery notes that it would be very difficult—perhaps impossible—for the US to re-acquire the manufacturing capability that it gave away to other countries."

Briant: Unfortunately, your right about many people having very little attention span.

The American dollar is taking a beating lately. A lot of the world's currency like Eurps, rupees, the canadian dollar are all up against the US dollar. That has got to effect the supply and value of goods shipping from and to the country. And yet Bush doesn't seem to care much about it.

I am personally outsourcing a number of things. I paid $0.14 to a guy in Uruguay per directory submission, I paid $20 for a logo design (including 3 comps), I purchased a few sites from Australians for $20 to $120, and who makes the nice st income of all? Me, and it comes largely from Adsense clicks from India. American manufacturing has shifted, quite a bit of "foreign" goods come out of Honda in Ohio, BMWs from South Carolina, Benz's from Alabama made with Mexican parts from GM, and lots of consumer goods with Asian and European brands built here and just across the border.

I guess Larry from Google had a hard time getting a job at his home town GM engine plant so he had to go make some silly search engine site. He should have gone to Kentucky and gotten a job at Toyota. :D
