Recently, Iran had reportedly blocked all access search engine Google, its Gmail email service as well as a number of foreign Web sites. This move was part of a clampdown on material deemed to be offensive. But, now here is some good news for Iranians as this blocking has been reversed. The Fars news agency reported that the Iranian government had blocked access to Google after briefly filtering them due to a so-called “errorâ€. Hamid Shahriari, the secretary of Iran’s National Council of Information stated, “â€I can confirm these sites have been filtered.†As it is, Iran has been known for imposing tough censorship on cultural products as well as Internet access. In the past, Iran had banned thousands of Web sites and blogs that contained sexually and politically critical material as well as women’s rights and social networking sites. Apparently, the filtering aims to prevent Iranians form accessing ‘offensive’ material posted abroad. Recently, the Iranian government had also tried to impose a ban on satellite dishes which were subject to periodic crackdowns. Although the blocks to Google and other offensive sites have now been revered, there is still a filter in place to prevent citizens from “accessing decadent material postedâ€. But, it is hoped that these filters will not block or restrict access to a lot of content. http://www.techshout.com/internet/2...t-blocks-unblocks-access-to-google-and-gmail/

I do not think google or anyone else makes much money off them anyways. It makes no difference to me but they need to learn the more they try to control thier people the more it will go against them.
If you were the Iranian government, you wouldn't want the Iranian people knowing too much either. Google makes far more total revenue in a single day that it makes from Iran in a whole year, so I'm sure they couldn't care less what Iran does.
filtering of internet content is done by some 40 countries according to a recent coverage on cable TV months ago. last year oct/nov I moved from US-based hosting to EU based hosting and had an instant approx 30% increase in generic traffic ... meaning that apparently filtering is easiest done by country of server-hosting and some countries are considered more filter-worthy by such nations than others. ppl of such filtered countries like iran and others may find the strength to bipass such filters and access free global information. when and how is but a matter of peaceful maturity and technology.
Just take a look at search result for Iran on Google: http://www.google.com/search?q=iran And the left picture on top... Maybe that had something to do with this
iranian people must start to use proxy while that are connecting internet. in fact, nobody can block anywhere on internet
in iran some of biggest sites in the world are blocked like : youtube photobucket imageshack sexyshare.us orkut facebook.com hi5.com Flickr .........
