What to do about click fraud ?

    Hi,

I have just launched a new campaign for a specific product, I'm paying over $3 per click for the best keywords, however someone (a competitor i assume) is clicking my add till I run out of money each morning.

I understand that google won't charge for fraudulant clicks, however it means my ad is not showing all day, an therefore not drumming up any business.

Anyone know what I can do about it?

    Thanks,

Google does charge for fraudulent clicks, just search for a costly keywords in google search engine and click all the advertisement only once do you think google does not charge the advertisers ?
Google invalid click detection algorithm does nothing to protect such kind of frauds

So even though I can run a report in adwords, which identified 7 of 9 clicks yesterday as invalid clicks, they will still charge me for them ?

Not that way, if someone clicks ads displayed on google search page only once from ten different machines and IP, just for the purpose of costing you money, google considers them as valid clicks.

Yeah I appreciate that, however the report in adwords is saying that 7 of 10 were INVALID, I can only assume that this means they have identified 7 of them as being from the same IP address. So surely if they know they are fraudulent they will not charge me for them ?

Also does anyone know if there is anything that can be done about it ?

If the report you generated identifies invalid clicks then google will not charge you for them.

If you have spend in size you might want to invest in clickfraud software ... this can detect clicks coming from similar IP's and generate your own reports and send to google, yahoo, etc...

Google tends to catch click fraud very well, according to my stats & conversion rates. It's not as big of a deal that everyone makes it out to be, at least not in my niches. I've very rarely spotted click fraud that Google did not already catch.

I have had a similar problem. My conversion rate is normally 1 per 10/15 clicks ...around about. One day, over the period of a night I had 300 clicks with no conversions, and almost 100% bounce rate. When i approached adwords support they just sent me a generic email about how they detect click fraud etc. Still waiting nearly a month later and they havn't done an adjustment. Pretty sure it was a new competitors site that had just been developed

If you can find the IP address of this possible competitor clicking on your ads (through your web logs or an anlytics tool that shows IP addresses) then you can prevent your ads being shown to them.

I'd suggest if this is happening in the way you say it should be easy enough to identify multiple visits from the same IP address. You can then use the IP address exclusion tool under the Tools section in Adwords to stop the advert being shown to them so the fraudulent clicks should hopefully stop!

Call adwords, send them your click log and you'll get credit for those charges.

Hi, sorry for a silly question (as I'm new in this), but how do I identify multiple visits from the same IP address? Is there a tool for it? Where do I need to go to check that out?
Another question: if i click on the same ad like 20 times a day, will the advertiser get charged for all clicks from the same IP?
    Many thanks for your time
