I'm not saying we should forget or deny history, I'm saying doing things the way we have always done them simply for the sake of tradition slows, Or even halts, Progress.

And how does permitting same sex marriage progress us? Towards what would we be progressing? I see progress as a good thing when it comes to technology, education, medicine, and things that benefit mankind as a whole. I don't see how allowing same sex marriage amounts to any progress at all, nor do I see how not allowing same sex marriage hinders progress.

Avoiding change simply because it is change is unwise, I'll agree. But it's just as unwise to change simply for the sake of change. In a world that's rapidly changing on many levels, I find no shame in holding onto whatever traditions can survive these changes.

    Equality...

Until the 60's there were bans on interracial marriages, now we look back and see that as stupid, just as people will do in 40 years when looking back at gay-marriage bans...

yeah I definitely think in 40 -50 years people will look back and say what was the big deal, I think it will be an embarrassments just like the interracial bans

I think that it's ok, people can do whatever they want, gays too ~,~
Those people have the freedom to do whatever they won't as much as it doesn't break the rules

You don't think promoting equal rights is progress?

(edit: I see someone else already said this)

Let's address this issue of equality objectively, shall we? From a legal standpoint, in what way are homosexuals not equal with heterosexuals? You guys say, "They can't get married." Well actually, they can. They just can't marry anybody of the same sex, and neither can heterosexuals.

Gay Bob is bummed (no pun intended :D) because he can't marry Gay Bruce. Well Straight Steve can't marry straight Dave either. Now I know you're thinking, "But Straight Steve doesn't WANT to marry Straight Dave." That's true, but in terms of equality and discrimination, you have to look at whether the laws apply to some and not to others; and not whether the current laws accommodate everybody's personal preference. For example, past laws that forbade blacks from holding office. That's inequality, because the blacks were forbidden to do something that was permitted for whites. Homosexuals have the exact same priviledges and restrictions that hetersexuals do, including the right to marry someone of the opposite gender.

So the same sex marriage issue is not a matter of equal rights. It's a request to change the fundamental basis of marriage, the union of a man to a woman. To me, that's asking a lot, especially when many states and countries allow civil unions, in which homosexuals can enjoy all of the legal benifits of marriage.

If you want progress, push for civil unions, rather than change the basic fundamentals of marriage.

    here is my true opinion:
If you are a dude and into other dudes, you've got to be fucked in the head and we shouldn't bless that with allowing you guys to get married and pretend that's the way to go.

What i would say is they aren't equal with heterosexuals because they can't marry the person they love. I think anyone with any sense would know that a gay guy isn't interested in marrying a woman any more than a straight guy would be interested in marrying a man.

Thankfully nobody with any sense is in the least bit interested in what someone like you has to say about anything. So you can go back to secretly watching gay porn in between your valiant attempts at asserting your heterosexuality now.

As long as it doesn't break the rules. But it seems it breaks someone's anus. You have to wonder about the mental aspect of this as well. If it's about love, why would you want to stick it up someone's rectum??? Doing damage is not love. It's sick.

I thought only religious dudes (that would be me) have a problem with this issue. While I would put it in nicer terms, I totally agree with what you said. So it's not just the religious dudes that see this as a perversion.

Dude, why do I have to stop going to a park with my kids sometimes because these sodomites have their gay (anal) paride marches? It's these sodomites that make it part of my business. They are the ones letting it out in the open and wanting to indoctrinate any school kid and lately they even produce books for kindergartens (The Two Princes, or I have two mummies).

If you kept it "private" I don't think it would be such an issue. And think about where that penis goes man. You supposed to push the poo out not shove it in. Ever think about the practical "non bigoted" aspect of this? Bleahhhh

Uh, no thanks, you seem to be doing enough thinking about it yourself, man.

<<Sigh>>. Another several posts about the anus - what are we up to, an even 30?

I'm going to buy this guy a pet anus for Christmas. In the immortal words of Lennie, Of Mice and Men, he can hug his pet anus, and squeeze it, and make it all his.:D
