Here's what I wrote in a similar thread a few days ago: What's the point? Anyone who is going to pay real money for hosting is going to get it from a reputable company, who they trust their site with and have 20 full time employees. Otherwise, it's pretty much a free for all, there's thousands of webhosts on the internet with nothing to distinguish between themselves other than price and those fucking annoying flash host templated websites they use so often. So unless you're taking a different angle or have a really good way to advertise to people who want hosting, then I wouldn't suggest starting a web hosting business. Oh, and don't think it will be easy either... I give my host a few complaints every few months, to keep them on their toes and because they have fucking stupid policies. You will be dealing with customers like me who bitch all the time. If you have an edge, good way to advertise or a certain angle which you believe in, then by all means do it. If you just want to setup 'generichost.co.uk' then I would seriously drop this idea and find something else.
question: why not start with a $20 reseller account and then expand to such a server once you have the clientèle and revenue to warrant it?
Start from a reseller. Do good marketing. I point you in the right direction on marketing. When you have enough cash go to Ceonex. Get a new design from them. Keep marketing. Web hosting is SO SATURATED, you'll never go anywhere without marketing. btw, my advice is free PM me
Yeah, reseller hosting will server your purpose, if you are not much experienced in hosting business you should start with reseller hosting, build you clients database, market your company, get handful of clients once you are confident of running a hosting company then you can opt for your own Dedicated box. For reseller hosting i will suggest you to have service from http://www.webhosting.uk.com/reseller.php
Thanks for all your advise there is not that many Irish company's offering hosting here well none that are cheap. The use of a server of my own would also have the means to store my own sites and a web design business to follow that offering hosting to clients at the same time increasing the hosting sites rep.
