Hi tnid, recently i was looking into SSL Certificates because i didn't know much about them myself. From what i found out, they are useful if you need to protect information being sent over the internet, personal details of a user, or on a shopping site where your accepting credit cards etc. Not neccessary if your just taking a payment through Paypal as it already goes to a secure page. But basically anywhere that you feel the details could do damage in the wrong hands if they were not protected. If im wrong on any of that, please anyone feel free to correct me.
Thanks for the reply. So if you're just running a discussion forum type of site and no paid services or products are involve, SSL certificate is not necessary?
In the "old days"... SSL certificates were synonymous with credit cards, paying online, etc. But with security at an all time high, such as identity theft, it's recommended to secure any area where users are submitting all sensitive info. eg) name, address, email, phone#, etc... But with a forum, where you only really require a username/email address, it's not necessary
