    Hi there,

I want to hire a SEO expert so please guide what questions regarding search engine optimization should I ask him during interview.

Secondly, what should be included in his job description/responsibilities.

I will really appreciate any help in this regard.

Most importantly, ask to see a profile of results and references.
Ask what his/her process is and ask for an example plan.
    Ask about timeframe(s).

Are you looking for the whole package? SEO consultation, development/design work, SEM, etc. What type/size site are we talking about?

If you have any experience in this regard, I would treat them just as if you were hiring a marketing consultant.

    Hmmm... OK

    • Give me some reasons why a PR0 page might appear above a PR4 page in the SERPs.
    • List some differences between Google/Yahoo/MSN
    • List some examples of why you would put a robots meta tag of "noindex, follow" on a page.
    • Name 3 ways to avoid the duplicate content filters
    • What is more valuable, a bunch of PR4 backlinks or a couple of PR5 backlinks?
    • How have social-bookmarking sites changed the SEO world?
    • Name 10 social bookmarking sites.
    • What is Freshbot?
    • What is Deepbot?
    • Give examples of bad CTR designs/templates and good CTR designs.

etc. Some of these are "hot" topics, others are kind of trick questions and others are pretty basic.

Hope that's what you were looking for.

heres a thought- forget about all these
crackpots that claim to do great SEO services
expecially if they have a site, if they have a site promoting
their SEO services ask them if their site appears on the
first page of Google results for the search term (Search
Engine Optimization) if their site does'nt come up on the
first page for their own site, how do you think they can
    achieve that for yours????

just use Submit Express , and forget about the
    other nut jobs.

More and more business owners are turning to the internet as a route to market their product or service. As a result, businesses are in need of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation/Optmiser) services to help with generating targeted traffic and a strong on-line presence.

As with any industry, there are SEO’s that are worth every $ and there are many that are just interested in your money.

In order for you not to get burned if you decide to seek an SEO, here are 10 excellent tips on how to determine a SEO is worthy or not:

    1) Ask what in-house sites they promote and where they rank in Yahoo and Google for which keyword terms. Any SEO who knows his stuff will have there own portfolio of sites, if he doesn’t this is immediately a red flag.

    2) Check his sites by typing the keyword/s in each search engine, take note of the amount of results/competition (In Google, you will see the amount of results in the top right hand corner of the search results) In general, the higher amount of searches, the more difficult it is to reach to the top. Above 50,000,000 search results is a good sign.

    3) Ask the SEO why he wants to work on client’s sites rather than his own. Does he want to gain more experience within different industries or doesn’t he like the commitment of working on his own sites?

    4) Find out what techniques they use to generate in-bound links – Manual or Organic? Anyone can manually build in-bound links (There’s nothing wrong with this technique) however a good SEO will concentrate more of his efforts on generating organic links via quality content, social media/book marking sites. Find out what ideas he has for your site. Ask to look at his previous link building strategies and results.

    5) The simple marketing test: If you have a set of links in your navigation bar, ask him his thoughts on what order they should be in and why. This will show if the SEO puts the end-user experience first, and you will also see some of his marketing thoughts and styles.

    6) Find out exactly what you get for your money and the time lines they will be delivered in. Will the SEO work on a performance basis?

    7) If possible, try to arrange a face to face meeting or at least a telephone conversation. Does he sound enthusiastic about SEO, on-line marketing? Has he got good ideas that will help grow your on-line business? Do your personalities match?

    8) Ask how many other clients he is currently working with, how many staff he has (If any) This will give you a good indication if he will be able to put the required level of commitment/effort into your project.

    9) Are his rates to low? This may sound crazy, but any SEO worth his weight in gold will not offer rates lower than what he can generate by promoting his own portfolio of sites. Why would he?

    10) Ask the above 9 questions to at least 3 SEO’s, more if time permits. You will get a good feel on what SEO’s can add value to your business from the questions above.

I hope the above will prevent you selecting an SEO that is just out to make a quick buck from in-experienced webmasters.

    Good luck!

Try go to elance.com or guru.com or rentacoder.com. And search Indian SEO experts (which from India). Because their works are good and cheap.

    Your logic has no logic.

I rank top 10 for "SEO Company" on the top 3 search engines, and also rank in the 20's for the 175 Million result term "SEO" on Google but because i don't rank for the 45 Million result term "Search Engine Optimization" i'm a Nut Job?

I'm normally beating sites like SEOmoz on my own for the term "SEO" who have a team of SEO's and a huge budget, yet i'm a "nut job"... Right.

    hehehe agree with you,
some time what happen is they are not interested to give time for some keyword which are not niche. but that doesn't prove your capabilities.
