    Hey,
Great directory! I'm having the same problem at My Searchplace. I recon it depends on the traffic you get. People are willing to pay good money for placement in high traffic directories, not so much bothered by the pr.
If you are already getting good traffic you should only except paid submissions - rather except 2 paid sites/day, than 200 non paid.
    Good luck

I get more than 100 unique visitors a day. Someday more than 150.

I was enjoying looking at your site, might be just me but the top left image does not work, but then i seen one add saying

"This is not a Joke - you are the xyz visitor - click here to win "

yes i understand that its probably a banner from a affilate, but it really did make the whole site then look tacky and cheap, / spammy looking.

if your directory is strong enough people will pay to submit. if your directory is free, people will just submit links. This is because you just have webmaster traffic. Try attract more normal users rather than just website owners who want a free backlink.

mikey is spot on, webmaster traffic will have no interest in surfing around your site, you need to build up your general user traffic. Paid submissions are tricky, especially right now, good PR will be enough for some submitters to pay, and its the easiest and fastest way submitters can determine whether a submission is worth paying for or not.

Concentrate on building your sites content, lots of SEO friendly content will help your SERPs and start driving more general traffic to your site, more traffic will make your site more desirable to paying submitters.

So how useful are directories really? I know that they're back links to our sites but do punters/users come to your sites via directories? I'm pretty sure the numbers coming to my sites from directories is pretty small.

I think you're better off concentrating on the SEO of the sites themselves and I include quality content in that too..

    Cheers, p.
