You coud try another subject as well that isnt computer related as people who are interested in computers etc arent likely to click on the ads. Whereas if you had say a blog to do with something more general such as toys etc then that audience is more likely to click the ads

    Hope that helps

I think affiliate programs for hosting and keyword tools would pay alot more. Adsense pays me lousy for credit site and it should pay me alot per click but 50 cents for credit score is not worth it to me. I make $15 if person uses affiliate site i promote.

You're in the same basket as i am. What we need is good banner affiliates, there the best revenue for high CPI/low CPC websites. Problem is finding one :D

To be honest, your ad placement has two major problems:

    1) Your Adsense ads (only ads I saw) are blocked by the Firefox AdBlock plugin and IE7 Pro, which I assume most of your tech-savvy audience will be using. You need a monetization method that is not blocked by ad blocking plugins. Affiliate links IN the content seem to be the best way I have seen so far, especially if the links go to a PHP file on your site that does the redirection, not directly to the affiliate. Likewise, serve images for affiliated products off of your own server with unique/new file names, as to avoid them being blocked.

    2) Your ad placement is just plain awful. Those that can see the ads can't possibly be visually attracted to them because (IMHO) the layout of your sidebar is horrid. De-clutter the sidebar, make the ads stand out in the sidebar, or blend them in with the content. Get the mostly-blank referral add out of the prime location and for Pete's sake at least put a paragraph return between the different segments of your sidebar. I know the geek market isn't looking for beautiful layouts, but your current sidebar layout has a serious lack of usability.

With anything catering to web saavy indivduals you have to get away from contextual ads. They are blind to them. Try affiliate marketing, sign up with CJ and focus on affiliates with products interested to your target audience.

Alternativley, write some more in-depth articles to put into an e-book and sell it to your visitors. Or give a few away to capture email addresses then send follow up offers, etc.

Also think about where your traffic is coming from. How did you promote the site? Are you just getting a bunch of Stumble hits? They are not going to click your ads.

i did it trough social networking and social bookmarking i don't know if these users use the toolbar but i definitely get that amount of visitors...

i mean come on i come asking for advice not to sell you something - why in Mary's would i lie - i just don't do that

anyway the sidebar has to be changed but i simply do not know what to place in which order ... this IS my first blog and all help is welcome

would serving the adsense urchin javascript locallly help in that matter?

that would be nice but where to place it as i have limited space and the books only apply to the people coming for "web dev posts" and not for other content like a post on "free open source software for windows" for example and many others.. it would just take up valuable space....

Try out thenewsroom.com; you could make $30+ a day with those statistics.

As I've said before to people in the exact same boat as you (which pretty much covers all posts I have made on this forum :p), there is one sure way to monetize your traffic, and that is to:

    Capture. Their. E-mail. Addresses.

I won't get into the details, but set up a form, get their e-mail, build a relationship with them, and promote related products to them. The great part is that once you have their e-mail addresses, you can continue to make money from them every day of the week.

    Good luck!

I used to use them. They did pay me, I have a screenshot of the check to prove it, works very well.
