My site was ranked 3rd on page 1 of search results for a keyword, now suddenlty after 2 years it seems to have vanished from google completely. Do you think they removed me for bulding backlinks too quickly?

What's your sites url so people can possible check the reason why.. Also it would help if you trace your latest updates for the site it might have been caused by one of those updates.

This thing happened to many in recent times. I think you should wait, it will come back where it was.

This happened to my site's home page, it dropped out of the top 100. As much of my optimisation was on the home page I lost a lot of traffic. But after about 10 days it came back again.

I think this must be google algos updating with strange effects until things settle down. With time I think you will see your site back in SERPS.

Maybe your site has some thing related to SPAM.This is not tolerated by google.

If your site has temporarily dropped from SERPs as it did with mine and many others, then there is nothing you can do to avoid this ... its down to google changing its data used to determine SERPs.

If your site has dropped permanently then that is a different issue and most probably something you can prevent by following "google accepted" SEO practices.

Are you gone completely or just out of the top rankings? If you type in your URL and nothing at all comes up, you may have been banned. If you show up but not in the top rankings, it may be a glitch that will fix itself in a few days.

It would help for us to know the URL of the site you are referring to.

Did all of your keywords fall or just one? If just your main keyword fell then your over optimizing for that keyword...Check your on page op and off page op...

You need to update your website from time to time. Google always show new update website first. If you have not done anything with your website, now it might go to #1,000

I had a site site at #2 for months and then just dropped off the top 1000....came back after about 2 weeks and now still sits pretty at #1 to #3.
Give it a few weeks before going into blind panic as i did.

several factors could affect the drop off... one of them is the dropping off of sites linking to you... so link wisely.

Seems that this happened to a lot of us. I have one site that move to the top of the ranking and one just disappeared like it was never there. Both sites are fully optimized to the fullest.

if you haven't done any major updated to your site like changing the site title and so on, then just give it time and you will recover it's because of Google updates.

Never panic. If you know there is something wrong with your site, such as "spammy" pages, fix them. Other than that, just keep on adding new content and building quality backlinks and Google will rediscover your site sometime soon.
