I would like to hear if you know any "simple site" ideas that become very popular. I think that by gathering such examples we might come up with new ideas that can become popular.

To start with I would mention www.milliondollarhomepage.com/ . The idea was so simple that I bet most of the people here could make that site. But the idea is always the key part. Do you know any other simple sites that made it big ?

That "Am I Hot" website. Upload a photo and people vote on whether that person looks hot or not. That's a pretty simple idea and it made a lot of money for the fellow that thought it up.

I have to agree with Google. Something as simple as a search engine and due to popularity, it has become one of the most visited and used site's on the web..

I have links to a few successful blogs that got big by virtue of their simplicity...

(PM me if you want a link to a website that lists them all along with stats, niche topic, monthly revenue, start date, etc----I'm not sure if I'm allowed to just post the link?)

You'll have to visit the About pages of these websites to find out more about the concept, but I'm not surprised at just how simple some of these ideas are.

blogger, myspace, let anyone anywhere have their own personal soapbox. Great concept, and keeps all the junk content in one safe place where we can't accidentally bump into it. And yeah that was a bit catty, so what.

www.feedburner.com - a site that displays freaking RSS reader count. Was bought by Google for big money. Cannot get much simpler than that :)
