Heres a thought. If I started a similar site and gave pages away for a PR4+ one way backlink, would you guys grab a page from me? If I had 700 pages sold all in exchange for a high PR backlink, I think that my PR would be pretty nice pretty fast. I think I am going to call it milliondollarbacklinks.com.
Here is another question. Once all the good names are sold, what will be left that someone would pay $100 for? I guess price would have to drop drastically.
If you got it on mainstream news, got it covered by John Chow and Shoemoney, and got the Alexa rank to 1,000, yep, I'd be all over it
nice idea, but we already have themilliondollarhomepage, and this just looks like a spin off i think it would do good if it grew virally to pr8+, then you could sell links and make a bit of cash. Also i've noticed that wikipedia is ranked high for a lot of search terms, so it could be like wikipedia but including affiliate links. could make a page like "best places to get loans", include affiliate links, earn $100 per quote taken. cool...

I'm just having a good time with pricks like that one, who resort to calling me a "dumb ass" because I made points, and they're just peeing in their pants because of a measly $100. It's a gamble. That's the definition of it. It might work, it might not. You've quoted some good points. Now quote all the positives. They outweigh the negatives. Think of it this way. If you wanted back links, would you make about 1000 websites, interlinking them, etc, and getting yourself a nice PR, or would you simply get a backlink? Calling someone an idiot is not childish. Calling someone a dumb ass, is. As for the points, they make sense. So we'll go back to the definition of a gamble. Now, to explain why I'm using MDW. The entire PR pages and outlinks, I couldn't give a shit about. I'm in the proxy business. Not the "make a few quick hundred bucks, and leave it" type, but the serious proxymastering. Few do I know who do it, but those that do are making very good money. So. Why would I buy a page there? Schools dont block it. It is a page which will be available to every person on one of my proxies to go check for other proxies. In that, a reputable list of proxies thats unblocked is just as viral as a proxy itself. As soon as it is blocked, people just go get another one from the page. That is my reason.
Another moronic logic about wikipedia showing up in Google search hence, anything with wiki will show up high in google search. At one time geocities PR was 8 but how many geocities pages were 0? Almost all. Wikipedia is the largest encyclopedic information ever known to human race. And Google knows it. Wikipedia is the sarting point of research on unfamiliar topics. Please check how many other high quality niche wikis there are. Do you see their pages showing up high in Google search?
This is a great opportunity to the right people. If you have a useful website, and make a nice page you will see great exposure. BuyABLogger.com, iMoondo.com and SeeYourHotel.com were the early adopters and have seen much frontpage exposure on the site. The one thing they have in common is a useful free services and developed MDW pages. I bet they are very happy with their $100 investment for the first few months. As for me, I own the design page and have started to pull down constant page gigs - with a little thought and creativity - I think some of you could find a great way to profit or benefit. You can use it to promote, sell products/services, link to affilate programs, display pay-per-click ads and even sell your page down the road. The versitility of pages are what make it a great value. If something isn't working out, try another method or use combos. As for PR - we are all waiting to see what happens with the PR update - the first time the MDW had a chance to recieve one.

Unless it grows outside of the webmaster community and starts showing some decent search rankings and pagerank, im not going to bother buying a page. ill be watching this site closely over the coming weeks and months, and should it steadily grow and become more popular, i will then consider buying from them. good luck to the owner too. its a good idea.
All I can say is that it's all about the marketing. This is a great idea, bravo to the guy who came up with the idea. This is one of those "GAH! Why did I not think of that?!?!" kind of situations
I don't see it is a viable way to promote your site, I see it as no more than a gamble. And a poor one at that, but thats just my opinion. People seem to be comparing it to wikipedia, the only similarity is he's stolen part of the name. Wikipedia (for the most part) contains decent information on whatever subject. This milliondollarwiki is going to contain pages full of garbage, spam, affiliate links, and general clutter. I wont be surprised at all to see the site barred from passing PR completely. I dont see it as viable long term site either, nobody is going to visit a site where every content page is full of garbage. The only real winner I can see coming from this site, is the creator.
It's a waste of money I would say. Better things to do with 100$, besides G is cutting down on paid links and this is just a big no no. Anybody can make their own page for example if I wanted to rank for the term web design I could just do something like, milliondollarwiki2.com/webdesign but that wouldnt help my SERPs.

I couldn't resist either and purchased two music pages, http://www.milliondollarwiki.com/Trombone http://www.milliondollarwiki.com/Trombones I've gotten some good traffic based on MDW popular pages, my own counters, and server logs. All I need now are some conversions, proof that the traffic is really worth more than $200. Adsense is starting to ramp up to a couple of dollars a day because of these pages, and soon I hope to sell off a few domain names I own through Sedo. Negatives aside, I think the future is looking good. We'll see.
