As long as the page is indexed, it gets counted. There is no evidence I have seen that would suggest that there is any difference between one directory or another and there are a few of our very own homeboys who could tell you why PR has little or influence on serp's . Genuine authority sites do carry more weight but its stretching things a tad to suggest that any directories being promoted on these forums have managed to crack the nod from Google. Hasnt happened, wont ever happen.

You're unlikely to find that many at any one time. The Vilesilencer list has about 500 general directories, plus several niche ones. Depending on your client's niche, you might find 550 to 600 to submit to. If you submit and then come back after a couple of months, you might find a couple of hundred more new directories have been built, whilst others on the list have turned paid. The reason that list is valuable is because it's restricted to SEO friendly directories: no redirects, no nofollows, no required reciprocal links, and so on. When you see people announcing many thousands of directories, it's likely that many of these directories have turned paid or shut down, or they simply aren't SEO friendly and they won't do you any good in the search engines. You have to ask how fresh the list is, and how carefully it gets monitored.
If thats the case why not share them? Secondly you are going to need a lot of help keeping that list updated. The grisly alternative is advance dementia and a padded cell. Alternatively I am growing a lists of organic link farms that come warts and all and with a guarantee for the modest review fee one pays.
Yes they do help. I've submitted several sites to very new PR 0 directories, and in 3 months you see that they have gained PR and have changed to Paid Directories. It was a good time when I got my sites listed in them. Also, in 3 months, you'll see them counting as backlinks to your sites also, and because they changed to paid ones, their pages will not be cluttered with lots and lots of free links, so thats an added benefit. Of course not all directories end up being paid with PR, but still you got some benefit out of those PR 0 web directories.
Is there any difference between the value of a PR5 link and a link from a directory which is indexed but has zero PR? I dont think so. Its an old wives tale and a hangover from the days when the wide boys used to range far, wide and totally unchecked.
You will not find 8,000 Free English directories. During the last 10 months, I have cataloged 17,912 web directories. Out of this number: 5,878 are phpLD and most (~ 92%) are in English - but only 850 of them are Free and many will go Paid. Few hundred others will come as Free. So this number stays pretty much constant. 1,445 are CNCat and ~ 75% are free 10,589 are mostly in other languages - mostly European and 90% of them are Free - but they are not in English Unless you want to submit to a mix of English and Foreign Free Directories, you can forget about submitting to 8,000 of English & Free Directories. It is not going to happen. Oh, I forgot the PR statistics on the 17,912 directories, but it is sooo late now. Maybe another time.
Contactusa: that's an interesting statistic Another issue I would have is that you do not want your links in one of these ill maintained directories that approve every link automatically - otherwise your link ends up between a lot of p0rn, gambling and similar stuff.
Cant do you any harm. Google does not penalise you for links from third party sites. It could only be a benefit, one more link back.
I have 3 directories set on auto approval. But only for paid links. I do not get any spam. I think spam will not pay to submit paid listings. I still revew all links and correct if needed. It turns out that 95% wil not need any corrections. Most people will submit a high quality content for revew, especially when they are paying for it. Last week I had 25 featured and 5 regular links submitted on auto approve. THEY WERE ALL FINE. You can see them here.
I agree. Think about it. In theory, I can take your domain.com and submit it to whatever directories I please. Thus, Google will not penalize for links on 3rd party sites. If that was the case competitors would kill each other before any PR update. .
I have about 7000 free directories - now working on a project to double that and also keep the list clean. A big job! See this thread! http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=479607
Are you sure all 7000 are free? Are they all in English? What is the primary Script? p.s. Got your PM. Now I remember how you found me.
