IMO only buy a laptop if you plan to take it places and you need it to be transported easily. Otherwise if its just for home use, a desktop is a lot cheaper and can be easily upgraded.

I had two laptops for about 7 years. It depends on what you use them for and if you want to use them when traveling. I believe wifi is helping laptops become more popular.

    Nice, hope it's good. :)

Heh! I guess it's because you can use it like anywhere.

What do you mean, there's always a trade off?

When was the last time you used one out of curiosity? (1763 A.D? :p)

Hopefully you can get one you want one day!

Nice, how much did you pay for it though? Hope it's worth it.

Not really a suprise that you use desktop more then is it! :p

    Congratoulations, hope you enjoy it.

It takes up way too much memory and takes ages to load some things. Win XP Pro beats it hands down.

    Col :)

I have one, only had it for a couple of months now its gathering dust in the cupboard. Novelty definitely wears off quick.

Laptops are almost as affordable as desktops now. I have one and I am thinking of getting a new one in the next 6 months. It's great having the convenience of being able to take your computer with you wherever you go. I think in 10 years we will see mobile smart phones and laptops merging together...some of the PDAs/phones are already pretty amazing for browsing and text messaging.

Yeah I spose, I will probably 'get' a copy of XP when I get it to dual boot.

Nice to hear they worked so well for you!

Also good to hear it's worked well for you too!

I guess you didn't need it for mobility and were using as a desktop almost?

    Which laptop?

Yeah, will be amazing what we will see in the future - desktops no more! (Well, atleast once chips are so tiny they can fit anything in a lappy/phone!)

Yeah sure, i'd love a powerful 17" Mac, but I can't afford to pay twice the price when I could get a equivalant/better Vista notebook. I'm also buying the laptop for gaming (not soley), and unless I boot camp I can't really play many games!

Mac is something i'll consider in the future, but for now it's a no.

I've got an old iffy Portege ($owch) and a new budget Presario. Away from home work horses - tools not trophies, blablabla.
