What do you reckon the difference in traffic is between say position 1 2 3 in google for your keyword
    and 4 5 6 7 8 9 10?

    What have you found?

That was what I was afraid of.
My site has gone from 100 to on average 10 or 11 for the 200 - 300 keywords
    but no raise in traffic

    Wow
So unless you are in the top three you will suffer.
For yahoo we are in the top 3 and gives us 60 % of traffic
Google only 30 % since it is a new site

i have a page that floats between #2 and #5 for the term "make money on the internet" - which as you can imagine is a fairly popular search term.

on the days that it's at #2, i get 500 or so hits from it. On the days that it's 3, 4 or 5, i might get 50 - quite a big difference.. I can't imagine what kind of traffic the #1 rank would get

That's strange, usually position 10 also gets good traffic since its all the way at the bottom and it catches the attention of those going to the second page.

I have lets say more than average keywords.
more like 10 -12 if I am honest.
There are a few at 10.
I think that it will rise on it's own anyway without me touching it.

Is 10 better than 9 then?

The worst spots are 7,8,9, I think, and 1st spot on the second page gets more clicks than these.

It also depends on what the page's title and description is.

If everybody else's page is "Van Leasing", "find van leasing" etc. and you are
"What's the cheapest quality Van Leasing?" then you could still get a fair amount of traffic as long as you are still on the first page?

True, but if I remember correctly Valley asked about the difference in traffic base on SAME WEBSITE with the same title/description being say in top10,then advancing to top5 and finally to top1 right? :D
Then you can see first hand what the traffic is like based on your position.

i have a site that is #2 for a good keyword... the difference between top 3 and 4-10 is sooo huge for me... The number 2 spot can get more traffic than the number 1 if the title tag is appealing enough...

I've been wondering the same thing. Good to know :)

Kinda sucks though that the difference is huge, but I guess it makes sense.

This is the results in a lot of niches. But for those niches where first result is say a forum thread, or a site only trying to get a first ranking and its not a helpful site. Than im sure the other spots get high numbers of traffic aswell.
