Google is there here to make money & they are doing business not social service..... so lets not waste time on one type of mkt(directory) many of us did mistake that is why we are still here & google is there (US stock ex) so lets start thinking business & there is no wrong ethics google charging for adwords... that is their right... they are giving u quality service & asking money for it...:) & these days they did social service for web dir's now they r not in need of any so by just one click they have penalised every site they dont need... & btw... just have a look at directorycritic.com now.. lol u will be shocked :)

That's what this whole thing has been about, the directory owners who say "Submit to a PR5...". Marketing suddenly became about getting PR and people stopped caring about the usefulness of their directories other than how high they could get their PR and in turn how much they could therefore charge for the links. (Getting high PR was part of every thread about how to build a directory.)

The whole thing turned into a massive pyramid with many of the penalized sites and their owners running the rest of the directory owners like the puppet masters they were. There were, and still are, many of us here who saw what was going on and rather than get blasted or even banned from here by the hordes, simply did business as we knew it should be done.

Those of us who have created a true resource and marketing platform for the sites listed (niche directories appear to do this better than the general ones) can and do say "get exposure and traffic and sales and conversions".

What I find so very interesting is how so many here continue to excuse the very people who created this mess. Yes, they did a great deal for this industry. While they purchased links on new and emerging directories, those new directory owners ran and bought links on the master's higher priced sites.

Buy low, sell high - that's been a way to make money since forever - and so many of you fell for it.

I personally don't care what people label me or others. I think that every directory owner should try to create something of use to the enduser. Which btw. is very hard, I've had a lot of plans with frogengine, but suddenly what happened is that I started getting submissions 2 years ago based on my popularity on DP and stopped working on what I originally wanted to do. Now I guess it's back to plan A ...

Well that was the intention of the people submitting to web directories, to get back links and in turn search engine benefit and which is what google doesn't want. Hence hitting the axe on web directories (though they are a bit late) and probably they are right. What i see from many days is that sites which rely "ONLY ON WEB DIRECTORIES" for their links and search engine benefits are all penalized and not ranking even for their title tags or site names. You might see examples of sites ranking from web directories, but the story wont take long to end ;)

dont try and compare a site having hardware issues with google penalising sites
do some research before you try and make something appear as its not

I do agree. But I also think that Google's algo is full of glitches, and also believe there are a few directories which still benefit you a lot, even though they are paid links. What makes them quality and others not is not something written in stone. Google blesses some directories and axes others of the same quality.

But hey, it's their choice and so be it.

I didnt interlink sites. I did buy links. I didnt sell people a high PR link.

Why did i get punished and not some of the others who did interlink, and who also bought links to manipulate PR.

    Simple:

You were at the wrong place at the wrong time and you're visible.

They are trying their best to do what is necessary for their survival and its their right to do so. They want dedicate themselves to the people and not to webmasters and SEOs. They want people searching google for xxx to get best sites related to xxx on top and they will do whatever they can to ensure this. Google's algorithm might have glitches which makes it possible to manipulate Sarch Results. But they are trying their level best in their algorithm to make it perfect and its still not easy job. Google's algorithm is no doubt one of the most complex pieces of coding ever done on earth.

No. So according to what i said above, they want sites which benefit to the end user rank on top. Yes some directories benefit us a lot like Yahoo Directory, Business.com etc. It is because their intension is not to sell links for search engine benefit. They give out paid links for the purpose of advertising and exposure for the buyers and benefit the end user (general non webmaster people) hence they are not penalized. The sites who are penalized have the impression that the only purpose they exist is selling links for manipulation of SERPS and nothing else. All other sites who provide extra stuff (listing good sites, traffic, content etc) have not been penalized.

    where was the wrong place,

The DP directories section which obviously was used to find directories to penalize.

and what does being visible include?

You're being used to make an example of. The threads "Did so and so get penalized" discourage people from advertising their directories.

Same as Google did when they announced the paid link report program. It encouraged a few, but not the directory people on DP, so they figured they have to go deeper and go to the source of evil and strike there.

so you think these were human edited penalties based on what people were doing on a webmaster forum? so i could make an account, pretend i was the owner of a random site, pretend to sell PR and get them penalised in google, even tho google doesnt know its my site?

    1. you bought links
    2. you sold links for PR value or anticipated PR value, whether you admit that openly or not
    3. who are the others who didn't get hit exactly? and what makes you think they didn't?

And what makes you think that -- directories that have not been penalized so far will not get HIT in the future?

I am preety sure- its not about selling advertising that Google is punishing. Its about manipulating PR & SERPs that Google is more worried.

My G Analytics has data of visits on 30th/31st Aug. for exactly the words I rank very very high. I showed them to some of my colleagues.

So the most logical explaination I can find is- Google is verifying all directories (and other sites as well) manually. It has picked up the first batch and put hold on their SERPs. Once they are done with this BATCH- they will move on to the next batch.

So no directory- that is going for SEO/SERPs is/will be safe.

They say that what goes around comes around and all that.

I think its a foolish idea to take such pleasure from anything that may or may not be happening within google, the directory industry or anything else.

One thing ive learned is never to get on my high horse about anything and to show decency to all, so many people want to abuse directory owners currently as if their pure and holy and suddenly directories and their owners are evil.

Why such pleasure from other peoples possible problems? if directory owners do currently have problems then thats enough on its own, google im sure, with all of its might can take care of things itself.

Currently the needle is stuck on this old record, lets change the tune now, everyone has had their turn rubbing it in, now let people get back to doing what they do and lets hope that whatever businesses others may be involved in out there that they dont find themselves struggling with something in the future.

I cant speak for others but only myself, i heard you loud and clear, very good thanks advice taken and all that, is there really anything left to say that hasn't already been said.

I agree with this but I dont think it will deter those with an axe to grind or a hidden agenda to stop how they are acting atm
A group appeared from the sidelines when this all started to happen and they have been jumping at any chance to stir up rumours and theories with the aim of hurting the people/sites they have a problem with

I think it should be used as at least a lesson to those affected to change their methods..and that includes how they conduct themselves on forums like this

Where did i sell links? I do it no differently to any other directory. Submit a casino site and see if i refund the $20 review fee.

I have a few examples of directories who buy links and interlink who didnt get hit.
