Do YOU have a laptop?

    Do YOU have a laptop?

I plan on getting a HP Pavillion DV9574 on Wednesday/Thursday - just wondering what you think about your own laptop.

How long did it take for the 'novelty' to wear off? (Assuming it has!)
Is it weird using it 'full time', coming from a previous desktop 'background'?
How long did it take you to get used to typing quickly on it? (From my little experience with lappys, I've found it harder to type as fast without making mistakes!)

And what's your general take on your laptop/laptops in general?

Just hoping it's going to be as good as i'm expecting, and that it's the right descision! (£855 is quite a lot of money!)

    Oh, and it's broken :(

Bleh! :p Yeah mine will be plugged in most of time - only a 2 hour battery life or so. Sorry to hear about it, how did it break?

Yeah that'll be nice! Being able to go whereever and use it, no more sitting in the same place forever. :D

Ehh don't remind me :(. I was downstairs watching TV and I left my laptop on my desk. Let's just say it started to rain really heavily and I had the window open . I am actually really annoyed with myself for being so stupid.

Otherwise you could try ringing up someone who repairs them, see if there's anything they can do. Or sell it for spares & repairs on ebay or something.

you can probably get it fixed again if you tried... I read a digg article where some lady had her laptop in an oven for 5-10 minutes and it still worked afterwards

Maybe she never actually turned it on? :p Seriously, if she did, that's crazy! Did she have to repair any parts? Or it worked from the get go?

I've found that some of the novelty has worn off, but it's still so much fun to bring it around the house or to a coffee shop. It's a MacBook 13" and it serves as a portable desktop replacement. Best purchase I have ever made. :)

I think the biggest mistake you can ever make is buying a Labtop.
At first they look very cool, but then they get really boring.
Sooner or later, you can't upgrade them, and you won't be able to play your favorite games.

I have a laptop but id say it must be 5 months since i used it last.. Batteries are the biggest let down. If i have to plugged in i may as well use my desktop.. The laptop is only handy when traveling.. sure you cant put the bloody thing on your lap without covering the cooling fan and making it over heat anyway.. Laptop taht you can't put it on your lap... We can call it a notebook...

Good to hear you still enjoy it though, which is a +.

:D Would like to buy a mac myself, but too expensive to get the 17" for me.

Sure, but I don't upgrade my PC's anyway - and the ones I have now are rubbish, the Laptop will out perform them by miles. It'll play games for a few years, and the current ones easily - so it's good enough for me gaming wise.

Why do they get any more boring than a desktop?

I'm pretty sure the new proccesors don't have them problems so much, as they output far less heat than the old ones. And surely using it on your lap is just like putting it on a table and what not?

Also is your desktop more powerful than your laptop? If you have no need to move it about, ofcourse you will use desktop more! :p
