Is it wise to buy text anchor links?

I’m very new to this forum, and yesterday I was reading a lot of posts. I read one in the link sales forum where a person was advertising that they would like to purchase anchor text links on sporting sites for a dollar amount depending on the page rank of the site.

Can anyone tell me if this is a good way to get links, and if they have ever done this?
I am having a hard time getting links on related sites. The only way I’ve been able to get links is thru articles and directories. And from what I understand those are bottom of the barrel links.

    Thanks

Thats where I'm having the trouble. I would like links that are very related (Boating) but I dont get any interest in other adding their links to my web site. Do you have any ideas on how to go about doing this?

Also how related should another site be? Here is my site www.premiumpowersports.com we sell boating supplies. Would a link on say a bass fishing site be related enough?

    Thanks for everyones input.

When you hit a brick wall for related links you expand out, so yeah anything related to outdoor sports or sports in general would be good links.

Is there some sort of price guid line that I could follow. Example:

    1 year links:

PR6 - $ what price is it worth
PR5 - $ what price is it worth.
    and so on to PR0

Does anyone have an idea, or what they have paid for in the past.

It seems to vary alot on the link forum page.

I found several people that have sports blogs ( Baseball, football etc.) But these are not boating or marine sites. Dou you think these are relevant and are they worth purchasing links on these blogs? Please help.

If your main reason is to find people that will purchase products from your site I don't believe those are sites which we would call "related" in this case, unless there is a fisher that is a football fan or baseball fan. But in any case, it would work much better to purchase links from sites that are more concentrated into boating and stuff similar to yours.

In any case, backlinks from "sports" related sites will certainly help you in the SERPs of the search engines, but I would rather buy links (especially if I am selling products) from sites that are as pretty much closer to my website niche as possible.

As far as it regards the pricing it differs from site to site, in question of pricing will enter, the pagerank of the site, the placement of the ad and the traffic that site has. A good and categorized list of sites that sell text links is Text Link Ads (but they were penalized by Google and I am not aware of any risk purchasing links from sites that are listed in TLA, i am just referring you a place where you can find resource of sites that sell text link ads).

Thank you Trapped. Yes at this point I am looking for text links for SEO. I can't post yet in the "Link Sell" forum yet. Once I can do that I will put a thread out there looking for Boating related bolgs and sites to purchase links in.

Another question. Do you think it is OK to do recipricla links with a relevant site "Boating or fishig site" that is a higher page rank? If so, why would someone wnat to do that with my site?

    Thanks

It is if you want backlinks but remember as Matt Cutts said about selling and buying text links, google for how is too hot about this issue. Try to read this report. The lower part.

Its better to buy ONLY quality links from trusted sites. And, before buying, you will need to check if the site isnt banned. And, if you see a lot of TEXT BL`s in the index of the seller, u need to expect that site will be banned and your site will hurt. So, take care when buying.
