You all may be surprised at these statistics. I go in to detail on the influx in traffic that I received from John Chow, both from him writing an article about my site and by being the first commentor on one of his posts. http://sitefever.com/drive-traffic-by-commenting-first/ The truth is you may not need $400 in order to receive any sizeable amount of traffic from John Chow!
the looks a little like a spam message???? well it doesnt until you mention "The truth is you may not need $400 in order to receive any sizeable amount of traffic from John Chow!"
I'm referring to the fact that there are a ton of people who wish they had $400 to pay for a review by Chow, but I'm saying that my statistics show that you don't need to pay $400 to generate a sizeable amount of referrals from his site.
Its a great source of traffic as long as you continue to post information that is supportive of the blog and relevant to the topic.
Exactly and now image Johncow! So, have the comment posting been very effective so to say - in earnings and traffic?
lol, keep a constant eye on his RSS feed and figure out when he posts a fresh article and post as fast as you can! John chow: I Make Money Online by Telling People How Much Money I Make Online <--Now thats funny, and true.
I saw that John Chow posted about this in his blog over the weekend. How many times has John Chow featured your blog now???
Interesting study sitefever I actually posted a study on sept 12th about being the top commentator on John's blog to see how much traffic he'd send but had pretty dismal results. It was an interesting study though, check it out: http://www.chrisguthrie.net/john-chow-effect-on-a-top-commentator/ Keep up the good work, I like your blog.
And if your still not quick enough then the alternative would be to hack the page so that you can remove the first comment and then place yours there instead. PS. no blogs where hurt or damaged in the writing of this post. lol Edit: forget to mention that commenting would not bring you nowhere near as targeted traffic as having a large article post written about your website. John will actually be re-viewing it and saying what it's about. With your comment all you have is the actual comment and your website name in the anchor text. No one would know what its about until they went to it, meaning that the traffic is likely to be very untargeted most probably.
Yeah this isn't anything much new. Alot of people... I assume have noticed this. I've been doing it abit on Shoemoney's blog.
Well if posts are what drive targeted traffic, J Chow did it again. He actually wrote another post about my blog, this time referring to this exact study. http://www.johnchow.com/miscellaneous-ramblings-9162007/
Lucky you for being quoted again. It should be quite common knowledge though that the first few people will get the most traffic from the whole traffic that clicks on links in the comments section as it's really just like how a search engine works. People normally read from top to bottom so they will see the first few comment post links first. Some will not even reach the bottom. Plus the first comment is the closest next to the actual post.
TBH I have been top commenter on Chow's list, and the comments I largely got were "Please look at my blog, I saw you over at John Chow, Nice site!", and contributed nothing. They also commented with names such as "Increase your Revenue" and "Free Wordpress Templates", because I have dofollow on my comments. In the end, if anybody did do that, I changed their names to "A rubbish website".
I'm not sure how successful this method is. I have never commented before and went to Shoes blog. I saw the blogrush article post and thought that I would comment. I am the first commenter there and so far I have not had one visitor from that comment being there. I have done a few comments since that on some other blogs and have not had any traffic from them either. These comments have all been made because I had an interest in the articles / blog posts that I had read and therefore made good comments.
Commenting can good traffic if you are within first three. Lot of people have had success on digg and others following this technique. Only thing is its not permanent.
