You got to be kidding me, The French resistance posed no credible treat military to the Germany army. I'm not saying that they didn't cause trouble to them but the French Resistance nor the French Army was able to stop or remove the Germany military force from France.

Nice try, London has been winning the listing of small, unstable companies but still large companies are listing on the NYSE. Plus the amount of capital New York investment banks deploy around the world is much greater then London.

Americans should have zero interest in the UN.

We don't elect the members, and thus they should not dictate what we enforce, where we enforce or how much we pay to enforce.

Without the US, the UN would crumble for lack of financial input from the other 130+ members. The costs are born more by Americans than anyone else, and yet we have but a small share of the overall direction of this committee.

In theory, a world government sounds great. Until you have 40 socialist countries, 20 islamic dictatorships and teens of African backwaters all voting on how your dollars are spent, how law is interpreted in your dealings with other nations, and where your taxes get sent for aid.

You want to send aid somewhere, send it to the American inner cities. You want to develop the world, develop rural America. You want to solve crises, separate the kids fighting in your backyard before you drive across town to stand inbetween two foreign interests arguing over history, money or resources.

Restore the republic, and make sure America is the sign of prosperity instead of this sickening messianic guilt complex we have that the problems of the world must be borne on the backs of the American worker.

just cannot see why we are even having this debate when morally we should all know that any one country cannot police the world.
have posted this selfsame question on other forums and the answer has mostly been unanimously that no one country should do it, but especially not the US, or britain, and i think the reason for that response is on the news every night.
am sorry if i upset you proteindude, but seriously you need to read 1984 -
    peace means war,
    lies mean truth.
and get over your hatred of all muslims, it is not healthy.

Great post man, I don't fully agree with the points about the UN (I feel, with a complete overhaul, it could serve a purpose), but still, awesome post.. So many people were quick to send money after that tsunami hit Asia a few years ago, but after Katrina, our cities are still dilapidated ...

Why not think outside the box... so many people think that only 2 choices exist:
    1) we police the world
    2) we will let the countries do whatever they want

why not develop a system with authority and oversight, yet checks and balances? rules and regulations for what countries can and can't do, then let the union enforce them...

if the UN was overhauled, and some intelligent, logical people were put in charge, it could do wonders...

He did something that other pussies did not. I just wish US will continue with the fight and move on to Iran, before it's too late.
It means a living hell to Israel if that period will come (hopefully), but it's worth it in the end.

TK, the fact remains however that I do not want to be subject to any international treaties that affect how we do business at home.

We have a constitution and a republic. If everyone else in the world votes for an initiative that the American reps and people do not agree with, what happens to our independence?

I see the UN primarily as a force for handing out the wealth of the democratic few to the despotic many. I see it as another avenue for big business and global interests to lobby without oversight.

The worst thing is, we can't even elect intelligent leaders domestically, then we let the buffoons appoint anyone they went to high school with to the UN and other positions of privilege.

What news channel are you watching?
The UN are just good to feed the poor, and help the people in need.
But when it comes to war and political.. they cant' do crap.
Don't think just because they did so many good things, that means anything. Where were the UN when Israel attack and killed the Lebanese last summer?

Or wait. you want to open the Palestine story?

The system of checks and balances will not be sustainable without someone to enforce the rule of law. Iran backed down from the United States twice in the last 20 some plus years both times where they feared military intervention was coming (Hostage crisis and US Tanker war with Iran in the late 1980s) How do you stop the next Darfur, or Rwanda without a credible force. There are some people in this world who only respect force, and talking is a sign of weakness or lack of Will. Does American have to be the only police force in the world, NO but no one else is willing to step up to the plate.

A better question would be where was the UN when Hezbollah open fired on Israeli soldiers, killing some and kidnapping the two that they didn't kill.
