The strongest directories are those which offer contributors organic links that have long term value and this depends solely on who is running them and why. None of these artificial measures of "value" are worth the time its takes to turn the page.

Transparency and accountability would make a good starting point if you are seriously looking for real value.

Great list, but one of the lists purpose's is to judge the strength of the sites in the search engines, the largest of which is Google, at the moment things might be changing at Google, on a temporary glitch or dance, or perhaps a "whoop ass" basis. Who knows.

In the non-google results its true, but who is the stongest (Yahoo, faulty Dmoz) is not clear at the momment.

Not sure, makeasearch is 5.1 at DR but 5.5 at seomoz... getting a feel that there is not much diff in algo..

Your kidding right? Has anyone even figured out or has it been released as to what this number is derived from?

Sorry, I am submitted, because I thought it would be fair and updated. But there has been no transparency and the ranking kind of look like "last comic standing" in the middle..

Don't mean to pick on anyone, but look at the middle of the list... ummmmm...
Sorry, pity party for me because I don't do good in their algo.. lol

Back to my earlier argument (see my blog)... what constitutes a quality directory? back-links and PR or exposure and passed traffic???

What does PS tell you? Does it judge the value of the content listed? What is important in a directory? Is a directory with thousands of artificial back links a better directory than one with quality content and a few hundred organic links? Guess some of us really do miss PR  Isn't time we changed direction rather than just changing feet?

This is a very nice link.

I am working on similar system of ranking directories and projects. When I will finish it I will post here. This page is a good inspiration for me now, similar like seomoz.org.

Yes his "DR" seems to be working nicely and rather accurate when you take many things into consideration..

I very much am waiting to see "yours" as well and please DO submit it here since its specific to our directory
needs and not diluted due to many possible factors concerning sites, blogs, forums ext ext..

    thx

yeah malcolm is right. DR seems to have a nice algorithm. As long as it doesnt rely on PR too much (which does seem to be a large factor), the DR rate will be something i use when submitting to directories :)

Hey Jeff, are you still updating the strongest directories list? If so can you put index-it.net under the ps7 list? Just found out today verify here

    Yes well ...

someone might want to fix his "alexa" link as it appears to not show any results when clicked
which then means the algo (if alexa is used) is not supporting
