Will consistently updating my blog increase my SERP?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by Kaabi, Sep 13, 2007.

I am the co-owner of an e-commerce business, and I have a blog on the site as well with articles, reviews, and news. Would updating the blog every day help my entire site rank higher, or would it just boost my blog's ranking? Thanks for the help!

I'm saying if I do nothing to promote my blog, but I consistently add content, that will help my entire site, correct? And if I wanted to promote my blog, what would be a cheap way to do that?

The more content the most likely the google bot will visit you and if the content is unique enough and being searched for than am sure you will have something from the SERP's in Google. But yeah unique content is what matters in my opinion.

Content is of course kind, but do not forget to ping each time you add content, because bots only crawl when blogs ping(not all of course), and do not forget to link your blogs internally, that helps a lot

So technically if you are patient, and there is a good following of posters, and a popular subject, then this could oblitterate a traditional never updated contnt ecommerce site.

    Another question
Some of you mention an increase of pagerank
So are you saying that a blogg or forum given enough posts will genrate it's own pagerank, with no other links pointing to it?

Only one person said it would increase PR, and he's wrong. The content alone will not increase PR, content has no effect on PR, but if people link to that content, then blogging will indirectly increase PR.

What do you mean by "ping each time you add content"? You DEFINITELY do not need to do that to get crawled; you will get crawled no matter what as long as that page is linked to from somewhere. I don't see how pinging would have any effect on indexing...

Definitely it would add value to the site as the content is being added regularly.

Please explain what pinging is, I'm very new.

Also, currently I have an e-commerce site as well, and we do not have a blog or forum at all. Would a blog be better than a forum. And does anyone recomend a program to use for adding a forum or a blog to the site. Or should I just create a "news" or "Forum" page and start adding content?

Where does averyone get their content from everyday? Do they get it from article sites, or do most people write their own everyday?

Kraven, I would suggest against starting a forum, as that is a business entirely in itself, although so is blogging. However, for a forum to work, you need active members, which is hard, but with blogging you are completely self-sufficient. I suggest getting WordPress and adding it onto your site, it is fairly easy to install, and then write your own posts everyday. If you really don't want to write, you could get articles from article directories like EzineArticles, although you would have to attach author byline's to your posts and people would know you didn't write it.
