Personally, my favourite domain provider is Go Daddy, though I've heard good things about Yahoo..do you guys have any preference??
I used to register Domain with Yahoo small business, there service is good. I can managed DNS easily, also have no problem when transfer to other. but the 2nd year price is a bit high.
Yep, also to get transfer the domain name from yahoo is big pain, godaddy seems good, you can even avail their discount using coupon code.
Why transfer from yahoo in big pain? I have experience, It's easy, just follow their FAQ. After requesting the transfer, I just waited for 5 day, and all done. Just a piece of cake.
If you'll check around this forum and others forums too you will find how people are struggling to take back their domain names and for transferring their domain from yahoo. Also they are charging higher price for renewal that everybody knows.
There have been several complaints about Yahoo. I prefer Namecheap. They have easy to use interface and everything can be dome quickly. I have used GoDaddy before and they were ok but I ended up switching to Namecheap because I preferred their system.
I am personally using Host Gator, and have been for about 4 months. I had some real bad experiences with iPower. I have used Yahoo before, and they were really good, very stable and reliable. The only reason I am not using them now is because, at least as I understand it, they do not allow redirects. My site is now almost 8 years old and pages and content have moved over time with re-designs (not always intentional mind you) and I have changed file names in order to try some of my own SEO. So for me I needed to have redirect ability within my own site. Having said that, I don't think you can go wrong with Yahoo. But if you are not married to Yahoo or Go Daddy I would recommend at least looking into Host Gator. I think others on the list may have had problems, I don't know, but my experience has been excellent. -Gene
For what you get their prices are good by me. Here is a link: http://www.hostgator.com/ Good luck. -Gene
I have always been using GoDaddy but theres too many rumors around saying that GoDaddy sell their customers (domain hijacking). It got me worried really.
domains: Yahoo: you have got to be kidding me, overpriced, waste of time, don't they even charge for push? GoDaddy: very good, except that they have a history of unilaterally taking away domains if they feel like it hosting: hostgator: i've so many bad things about them. all you have to do is look at their pricing page to see: 6.95 for 1 domain and you have to pay a year in advance = really bad deal. godaddy do unlimited domain hosting for the same price, and monthly. apthost.com do the same deal for 5.95 monthly.
I will agree that I have heard bad things from others about Host Gator, but I have nothing but positives to report. I have found their customer support to be far more responsive than any other domain host I have ever been with, and you can host unlimited sites with them. The reason that I switched from iPower to Host Gator was because the iPower statistics would not work. I would get many days were they reported no visits, which was not right at all. They also didn't care and said there was nothing they could do. My suspicion is that web hosting companies work in cycles. They will be good, then because they are good they get more customers that they cannot handle and then turn bad again until they can handle the load. I suspect the grass is always greener on the other side. -Gene
