CTR in the can...

Just following a redeisn of http://www.dogflu.ca my ctr has plumitted..

All I have changed is the look of the site, ads have not moved from their spot on pages that had me averaging over 10% ctr...

I've even added a block on internal pages above my logo to try to drive this up but no luck. Any suggestions as to the cause of this?

Keep in mind that your design has a lot to do with CTR. That's why people experiment with placement. Obviously your old design worked better for you. Just play with placement of the ads and see what happens.

 

That's terrible ad placement, I can barely see one ad above the fold on the homepage.

 

Nice design by the way. Anyhow, what kind of figure are we talking about here. It use to be 10% and now what?

before the redesign, the ads were in the exact spot they are now, aside from the new ad i put in above my logo only on internal pages.

Before the redesign, the average ctr was over 10, now it is struggling to clear 4...

This is a big site and pulls in a lot of revenue, thus a 5% daily drop on ctr is quite a sobstantial amount.

Welcoming all ideas, if anybody wants to chat over ms, go ahead and add me.

i didn't even notice the ad block over the logo, so it's a waste of space... is the ctr for that channel way lower than the site average? if so, get rid of it.

try putting a thin ad block in the middle of the menu on the left, and dump the square ad in the page content... having a big ad block above all the content, to the point of forcing a page scroll to read all the content, stinks like mfa.

i'd put a 486 or 720 banner in place of that single giant ad block... and replace it in the dogtip deal as well, it's pretty suspicious the way that it's laid out now.

does adsense have a thin banner that isn't too wide to fit in the menu space?

I think it is very deceptive too, not saying it is your intention but it blends - let's say a little too well. I hardly noticed it was an advertisement block . But I think the placement isn't very good, I may be a little blind to adverts since I approach websites on a daily basis, but they just don't appeal to me to click on them.

Try some different placements and see what works. But web design has a big impact on the way people click on your adverts, just like how a certain newspaper catches your eyes when you walk into a newsagents.

 

i'm thinking that the dogtip deal people are talking about looks questionable, as webtalk stated.

maybe put a 486 or 720 block in there instead of the square block, see what that looks like.
