Signature links decreases rankings

dear friends,
i tried putting link to my site in the signature thinking that rankings will get boost in google etc but to my surprise the rankings of the sites decreased.
does this mean that links in signature decreases rankings.

Not at all, signature links do not bring down your rankings, but more than a single link is not going to do any benefit, but the overall fact remains if your post or thread ranks high in the search engines for a particular keyword (it happens sometimes during certain long discussions) then the sig can bring you heavy traffic

 

I dont think. In my experience it increase my backlinks also.

well,
i know this is contradictory but i put a link to one seo services company sites and they informed me that putting the link in my signature decreasesd their rankings.i checked it myself they were ranking 20th for seo services in india term and after i put in the links like Seo Services India in the signature there rankings dropped to 25 for the term "seo services in india".
you can check it your self.
is it just a coincidence or u also experienced the same thing.
May be google down valueing signature links in forums like digitalpoint just as google downvalued pad directories like aviva directories.

 

It is counted as a backlink, and last time I checked backlinks help your SERP position, Google or any other search engine can for a fact, not determine if it is a signature link or a backlink, so it's counted like a backlink.

is it possible that google might be temporarily decreasing the ranking when he finds a link in public forums.might be when link ages than it can boost rankings in google.

i think its just a coincidence because so many people might not have been using signature links if it decreased ranking.

Signature links helps to increase rankings, not decrease.

 

There could have been millions of other reasons why your site ranking dropped in Google. Loss of other important backlinks, content not being so relevant, other sites simply becoming better etc.......

 

The drop in rankings certainly wasn't due to the sig link - more likely some other factor such as an algo change

 

As jakomo said, wait for a few weeks. Maybe the drop was due to Google dance or something else. One of the sites I'm working on went to page 2 of Google from number 1 ranking for its targeted keyword. It was back at # 1 after 7 days again.

 

yeah thats right there can be numerous reasons for loosing rankings and not just backlinks, it forms only a minute part of the whole ranking algo

 

sig can increase traffic ...but there are also some reason for loosing rankings.

 

I'm sure your sig links are not the reason why you dropped in SE.
Most of us have links in our sigs and nothing like that happened.

Well, it could be other reason but forums signature will not drop your SERP actually it really helps in improving your SERP for your targeted keywords that you use in your sig.

 

a backlink decrease the SERP or rank !!!!!!!(even is sig, its stll a BL)

 

Its prolly just a fluctuating SERP you're looking at. A signature would not bring down your ranking.

it looks that i should wait for few days.
everybody said signature link increases rankings so i agree.
i was just worried when just after putting a link in signature that site went from second page to third page.
I think we should wait for two weeks after experimenting anything new.
