IMHO, I wouldn't invest in the future of directories. Although they will be around in one form for a long time to come I think the hassle of the evolution a owner would have to make to his/her directors wouldn't be worth the time and money in the long run.

I think quality directories have a future. That means not having spammy paid links.

In future I guess only directories with content will rank nice.... all other directories will be done something by google... so content is google's god & traffic is our god as it beings revenue :)

Content is king :) Go that way and google will love you.

Charge a review fee, not a link fee.

Maybe that should read editorial integrity rather than content. It might get mistaken to mean that you have to stuff your directory full of filler content to try and fool the spiders into thinking its something its not.

I said earlier and will say again, dont be a looser , make sites which are all quality and useful to everyone. People will love it , Google will love it and will send you traffic too. Moreover dont concentrate on selling link juice to webmasters. Concentrate on getting quality traffic and readership and building your site's fans and audiences. Brand it. Those sites will make you money and perhaps sometimes a fortune.

Some good points here. I think only Google can answer this. :)
