I manage a fairly well ranking website for Missouri Real Estate and now my client wishes to open an office in the bordering state of Oklahoma and possibly Arkansas. It would appear that the current Missouri site enjoys decent “Trust Rank†with Google so I was considering creating a sub-domain to include the Oklahoma Real Estate content. I have two questions obviously: 1) Is “Trust Rank†passed to a sub-domain? 2) Is there ANY chance of damaging the existing rankings by doing a sub-domain with content for a related industry but different State? Any input would be deeply appreciated. ~VegasMack
I think you are better off with two separate websites on real-estate. The clients are what is important... And chances are clients would see more trust in a site with its own domain than one as a subdomain... no matter what Google thinks.
If the missouri site has missouri in its name it might not make sense to make a subdomain for a diff. state.
Each sub domain on your main domain treated as a new url an it's not related to your main domain at all.
Well it sounds as though the general consensus is that I should not use a sub-domain for this REALTORS® second or third office in different states. The reason I asked was because of the widely use of sub-domains by the condocompany(dot)com Most of their sub-domains rank well for city+condos. While the main domain has a ton of back links the sub-domains really don’t so there must be some transfer of “Trust Rank†or link juice to all of these sub-domains. Any thoughts on this? ~VegasMack
The Missouri site does not have a state name in the domain name. It is actually www.goallpro.com which was derived from the company name All Pro Realty. The sub-domains (or new domains) would be for All Pro Realty offices in Oklahoma and or Arkansas. I hope I am articulating this to give a clear picture of intent. Thanks, ~VegasMack
