I bought my page via paypal. I really like this idea and as others have said it is a long term investment.... he has already put in close to 75k.. so even if he didnt get one more page sold.. that is a hell of a feat... he should use some of this money to get PR somehow off the NET to bring in the non webmaster traffic to buy pages... I look for this site to do well in PR eventually (for those that care about PR). The $100 was a no brainer...
Are you serious? A small group of people are taking risks, and the rest of the people play it safe, and bitch about how it won't succeed to add to that. You are the definition of a sheep. Send an email to him. He'll give you an invoice and you can buy it.
I think million dollar wiki has hired lots of people to post in all the forums. Before any moron buy a page there, just think why anybody will go to visit a site full of ads. I have a page. No I did not buy because I am a moron. I did not buy for backlink or PR 6. Who gives a damn to PR 6 pages. I have plenty of them. I bought it to experiment. I bought it in the early days and I have the word that is $3 to $5 a click in Adsense. It is a play ground of a few people, including some top bloggers, to make money by creating buzz. I give credits to the creator for selling Geocity type free pages for $100 and morons are falling for that. I am writing a book and the page stats will help me to head a chapter "Don't Do this For Advertisement"
Great Comment. I think it is clear based on the URL what the intent of the site is and I don't think the intent is to help anyone but himself.
Oh man. That is the funniest thing I've heard on DP yet. Awesome! I'll throw a little change in that pool as well. Yes, there are plenty of other cheaper methods to get traffic. But will you get as much and/or as fast? I agree, it might not last very long, G will end up murking like Squidoo, regardless, anyone should be able to [hype or not] at the very least, recoup their $100.
I looked and there are only 220 pages indexed in google from the milliondollarwiki. I also checked and noticed that the site has been widely promoted by this guy using comment spamming on myspace. This is not exactly the road to success for a long term project.
do you work for the site or something? Must be nice to have $100 to throw in the garbage, when there's so much else you can do with it. Dumb ass.
No, I dont work for the site. And I'm tired of telling you why it's worth it. In the immortal words of some dude, "Put up or shut up." Give me a reason it's not worth it. Also, I do have the $100 to "throw away", as my sites are not failures, and are easily able to make that amount. Could it be from my other marketing methods which people bitched over?
Vadym calm down dude your getting all worked up for nothing, you need to learn that people are allowed to disagree with you. the whole thread is full of good points ill just pick a few good ones.
Well, it's an interesting idea. I hope it success as I'm sure it'll be successful. I'm suprised it hasn't hit the news yet.
I would be pretty happy if I were him, but I don't see how this would succeed. The million dollar thing has already been done recently, and it may not reach outside the webmaster community.
why wont it succeed? great ideas always work well. how many times do you search google and a wikipedia page ranks above other sites? if this guy does half the job that wiki have done, the SERPs of the page you bought will make your investment worthwhile....
Vadym, i have no intention of hanging myself. I wish you all the best with that site. The point is... i just don't understand people. Somebody here is talking about sheep,.. and he is right. Why don't you guys start your own business? Why do you always rely on somebody else's idea?
Well I started the thread! And Wow so many replies. Well let me write an update: I bought this page - I didn't expected much, it was a gamble. Either you get a value for the money u spent or you wasted that money. So what kind of results I got in last two days: http://www.milliondollarwiki.com/Online_Money Total Unique Visitors sent to my blog: 50 Total subscriptions received for contest: 5 (I put the subscription form about 4 hours ago). The bounce rate: 47% That Pages/visit: 3.2 Its a very small traffic. But since the period is just two days, it cannot be analysed much than the above. So will update every week about the stats. Let see how long the Hype lasts!
Well just to chime in, I don't see this turning into a legit site like Wikipedia, but it's generating enough buzz (and a decent Alexa rank) that I bought a page basically as a gamble as was mentioned. It hasn't done much yet, but hopefully from Adsense or referrals or reselling it later I can get a positive ROI. More of my thoughts: http://internetmarketingsucks.com/blog/2007/09/12/jumping-on-the-million-dollar-wiki-bandwagon/ http://internetmarketingsucks.com/blog/2007/08/31/squidoo-clones-are-pointless/
I read that the Million Dollar Home page guy hired a publicist to get his site going. I hope Million Dollar Wiki is following his trail. I think that would help get him in the news, on Oprah, etc.
Childish name-calling aside, I think you're wrong, or at least you've made a number of assumptions that I would strongly disagree with. For instance, you seem to assume that the link quality of this site will remain constant or grow for 15 years. I would say that's unlikely. Google could decide at any moment that this is a case of link buying, which it is against, and devalue all links from this site. In addition, they could penalize this site if they decide that it's mostly spammy articles, which it mostly is. That throws your whole idea of growth and a constant quality link right out the window. Devalued PR + Google penalty for link buying = No more traffic from Google /= $100
this is such a ridiculous concept. Think about it this way, what is the incentive for any visitor to go to the page besides someone who is looking to buy a page or seeing what other pages people have bought. Its a scheme, theres no real value in this. Why would someone go to milliondollarwiki.com to look for info, when they could go to wikipedia and get non spammed info? milliondollarwiki isn't offering anything new, and the only viewers it has are people who heard about it in news releases.
