What's with the crappy formatting? It has all the earmarks of a sloppy cut and paste job - the question is where was it copied from?

A bidding directory by definition is a cash cow (at least potentially) for the owner. It adds nothing whatsoever that's beneficial to anyone else on the net. It's a blatant exploitation of PR hysteria.

Sure they can... by spamming the hell out of forums like this one to push their "services" (sic) to webmasters, aka potential customers, aka one of the "one born every minute" crowd..

No. I tell people stuff they SHOULD know but evidently don't.

What value does a bidding directory have exactly? And please don't waste my time with platitudes or beating around the bush. Plain and simple. 25 words or less will do.

What makes you think anybody should talk to you if you can't fight/argue fair?

They provide absolutely no value! They are perceived, "by the uninformed", to yield all sort of magical powers in terms of PR. Truth of the matter is that they generate little to no traffic and even less revenue unless you are another bidding directory looking for more unsuspecting buyers. More over, I believe their life expectancy now-a-days is under 3-6 months.

That's a generalization and probably true for most BD's on DP. But adding a bidding directory on an already established domain name can get you a lot of traffic related to whatever sites are buying listings.

Dont they? you mean all those PR0s like zorg-links and a few others that manage
to send me a few hundred hits weekly dont count?

Im afraid that If they "convert" into possible reviews then i have to beg to differ.

I guess Bigweblinks doesnt do anything for all those on the front page ...
maybe im better off adding my link on a site with similer traffic and paying $200
monthly or on some as high as $1000 monthly... who was smarter then?

Your right i think ill just go ahead and spend a few thousand monthly on adwords
that will get clicks from dirtbags having thier buddy click on my link so that they can make
$10 bucks in a month and cost the advertiser a few thousand due to fraudulent clicks

In the end who wins? ........

    thx

And of course they rank only for bidding related term if that is the only sites submitting. That doesn't mean a bidding directory in its concept is flawed, it only means that there is too much inbreeding(linking) going on at DP.

hey mikey! you think? Can you show me one example OUTSIDE of the SEO / DIRECTORY / BD / WEBMASTER industries where this is the case?

Think about one thing Mike, pretend PR didn't exist? What value would that directory have?

    cheers

How about this, give me some text to put on the bottom of www.frogengine.net and we will see if it ranks for any of the terms there. It's not froggy's fault that all the sites submitted are webmaster related. ;)

malcolm ... Every BD I have seen are nothing but more ads to other BDs or directories its a joke. How does a visitor looking for a skateboard, cellphone or hat get any value out of the listing in the BD? They get stuck in a ring of visiting directory after directory after directory until they final say screw it. Like mike said "a lot of in-breeding". Poeple don't understand the concept or value and most are just out to make a quick buck.

    cheers

Why didnt you state that fact earlier? I agree with that 100%

a bid directory doesn't offer many "search results" even with those cheesy categories that are many times irrelevant and simply
placed so that google doesnt come and take them away...

they would be better off becoming "niches" to any certain field as atleast then the surfer gets something in return rather then the submitter or owner.

But in the end ... if your a "Directory Owner" or in the "webmasters field" it can and will drive traffic if your on the front page...

    thx

Not any term, but some. It shows up for non bidding related terms, but not any good ones. How about we come up with a made up word like
lawfrogengine and see if it hits? ;)
Right now the directory is closed for submissions, so maybe it will wind up ranking for more than just bidding related terms.
