Directory union

Hey guys,

I know this has been mentioned a couple of times before here, but I had some new ideas in order to offset the points made against it. I have the money to start the programming right now, but I just want to make sure you guys are interested.

This is how it would work.

There would be one directory on the site. A directory of directories (get it). To get accepted to this directory you would have to pass a pretty high standard (not decided yet, but will be decided once we have our "editors"). Its a Yearly $5 membership fee for unlimited directories that get accepted. You have to pay the non refundable $5 deposit before you know if your directory is accepted or not (this will make people think twice about submitting). this deposit will also count as your first years payment.

Once accepted you will have an admin area. Your admin area will allow you to veiw the forums, edit your listing in the directory, and see news about the union.

Now to answer your biggest question, "Well money+power=corruption". Well I've thought of a way around that. We will have as many editors as we need, but each directory will be verified by 5 editors. majority rules, if 3 out of 5 say it passes, it passes, if 3 out of 5 say it doesnt, it fails.

Each directory will then be given a seal to place on their directory with a unique number. The number will help to verify fraud directories just copying the picture and putting it on their directories. The unique serial number will then be able to be checked up against the website listing.

And remember the $5 yearly fees, well they'll go to hosting, site improvments, promoting directories in general, and possibly even contracts with search engines to give our directories some weight.

This doesn't sound good when you have only idea and nothing else.
You even have no skills for coding...

I even have new directory of directories prepared but I ddidn't mentioned it here until I decide to open it.
And it's enough good, well coded with preety advanced features and stats not seen on any other directories.
And when I say it - this means it si as I said. People know I can do such things.
But I still have doubts about it. Prefer to wait for better times or will turn it into something different.

 

The time is now... I've been reading up here about directories that are taking an absolute beating lately. Like getting hammered! If we stick together and form a Union- it might not be as bad and we may be able to even reverse it.

And about my coing skills- yea I have a coder waiting to start

I have no problems.... as i have coders, editors, design people,advertisers, lawyers ,ect ect and this to me might be the perfect time to get rid off a bunch off the crap floating around that are here just to "sell a link" for $1.99. Any smart business Puts money aside $$ for research and devolepment as well as can hang on for 6 months to a year in times off drought and can diversify in times off need..and if not then they werent ment to be

If you notice were still doing what "Some" others are doing... building better directories that offer more as we have nothing but time in the end and the stronger directories that have funds reserved will continue to explore new possabuilities while others will fade into nothingness..

I meant in the SERPS and stuff. But yea this is also to get rid of a bunch of those crap directories out there. Thats a big reason and plus side for this site.

You should, instead of TALKING about it, start it and see what it evolves into. I mean, your the one that said,

Worst case scenario, it fails and you waste a few months of your time, right? I personally think the IDEA is sound and have seen many people talk about similar things but have seen no one take ANY action on it. Wouldn't it be refreshing to have someone come in and say, "I have started this thing. Come and join me."

Ahem, it is not all talk. If you ask some members here, IWDAA is already in progress and looking forward to a launch date.

I think you should design this type of association or union around a search portal site that spiders only the directories that are approved as part of the union. That way you would be pooling all the resources of the directories involved and giving search engine results based on that. You could even go for 'ads free' search results which no other search engine offers because this would add a value to all the submitters to the directories involved.

 

Malcolm, you have Lawyers, Seriously? i dont know personally of any directory owners with a Lawyer. if i had to go through court right now i would have to represent myself as i cant afford legal backup currently.

When you say you have designers etc, you mean outsourced work?

 

I also have lawyers, never for my directorys but there there if i need them, mainly there for my sites with video's on them for legal reasons
