If you aren't interested in the topic, it is going to be hard to keep working on building your site. If it's a topic that interests you, you'll naturally want to continue on it. If you don't know much about the topic, your content won't be any good and you'll eventually be sifted to the bottom.
I am interested in jiu jitsu, but I don't know enough about it, IMO. ( Web ) Design is my real passion, and I know quite a lot about it. I guess it will be a design website Should I start a blog or what ?
I'm amazed that many people here are stating that Jiu Jitsu isn't all that popular. What do you base these claims on? http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=jiu+jitsu&search=Search (24,500 videos) http://www.google.com/trends?q=jiu+jitsu (At least Brazilians seem to be interested; might be hard to market to them though, if you don't speak Portuguese) http://www.subfighter.com/forum/index.php (Look at the number of posts on that forum) And I always read that low competition is a good thing. How is that? The probability of discovering an untapped, yet profitable niche is very, very low. But if you see Adwords ads consistently displaying for your search term, there are people making money in the niche. I agree that you should stay away from oversaturated niches, though. I would highly advise starting your first website on a topic that you are passionate about. The Jiu Jitsu niche seems a little difficult and might get you discouraged, but that impression may be wrong. Webdesign is insanely competitive and oversaturated and people are used to getting webdesign stuff for free or pennies. Not my call, but I'd go with Jiu Jitsu. Tom
what is your favorite hobby? just use that niche then? if you like tv or movies open a tv and movie directory. There are billions of possibilities
I'd go with Jiu Jitsu too. If your niche isn't that popular then their is a ton of room for you to make an impact and become a top site in that niche. As stated by dictionary.com: a niche is "a distinct segment of a market". Jiu Jitsu is a distinct segment of the MMA/Fighting market. Capitalize on the low competition and work your way to the top.
Read his first thread. I won't relate to this again, because noone ever reads the first thread. He wants money. Read that bold word again. How many advertisers do you know compete for the term "jiu jitsu". I could make the most famous Sock Puppet website in the world, in 2 years time. Not going to do much good if noone creates ads with keywords "sock puppet". I agree, go with Web Design niche. Make sure you introduce a unique way that sets you apart from other web design sites, in order to excel.
check out google trends The information here appears to be pretty strong. You can see the increase in news traffic since 2004. The search volume seems to be steady and with all the increase in news stories there is a good chance search volume will increase. Low competition + High interest = Quality Niche I give it the green flag
Xabber, theres plenty of money in Jiu Jitsu, its how you monetize the visitors, just looking at the numbers is only part of it, the intangibles are important too. Let me ask you this. How passionate are you about it? Have you spent any money on it? lessons, clothes etc? What do you wish were easier to find when you were just starting out? What are the things that you get along with it? (like an enhanced sense of personal security, or better health, these are HUGE markets just my 2 cents
Hi, since you are still new to the game, start off with your interest first, get your hands dirty to understand the whole process. Jiu Jutsu like what you said is your interest so you should know enough about the subject. Work on that narrow niche and slowly learn how to drive traffic, how to monetize it so on. You can pick up some really secret tips on how to choose a niche and profitable product to market from my free report.
Xabber, I thought I would toss my hat into the ring. While attending a seminar in 2006, I had the pleasure of meeting Master Lloyd Irvin. He is one of the world's jiu jitsu gods. I believe he even beat one of the Gracies in Brazil (I don't know much about jiu jitsu, but I do know that it's a very big deal). Anyway, from his first seminar up to now, Lloyd has taken his biz to the millions selling info and DVDs on jiu jitsu. He is also doing a Dan Kennedy style direct marketing thing for his schools in Maryland. I know you said you like design. Why not approach offline jiu jitsu schools and offer your services. Do a Google search on lloyd Irvin and you'll find his sites. Show them how successful he is using the internet. Maybe you can even be an affiliate of Lloyd's. If you truly love jiu jitsu and web design, then you should combine them. Just my opinion, hope it helps.
think about all of the popular trends going on in the world. people are making tons of money off myspace related ebsites a trend here are a few more trends making money from home or online there is a niche allot of times there is more money to be made marketing to marketers and home business people than starting your own site health and wellness is another huge trend also global warming and helping the environment baby boomers is another trend the generations and what they like are more huge markets tweens teens retired people all looking for things I market to marketers and do well not to self promote you tube is another post videos about popular thinhgs going on look at that weird girl crying to stop making fun of britney spears and her fat ass lol
Thanks all, for helping me. I will start a website about jiu jitsu, but before I will launch I will first read a lot of articles, and then wright my own, unique articles. Once again, thanks everyone, your help is VERY appreciated ! I'll post the link here, once it is done
Sometimes it is better to go with a smaller niche, because you can be more targeted and more focused in your marketing. Maybe there are forums where people talk about jiu jitsu? Find out what they're looking for: training videos? techniques? ...and build your product around that. You'll have to do research, but if it's a tiny niche, maybe you'll be one of the first to hit it, and you can really make it big. I do recommend though, that that not be your ONLY niche. Go for the web design... but that might be a more saturated niche. But, if you come out with something unique, you can do really well there too. Just my thoughts; take them or leave them.
I was thinking about this the whole day and I won't use any of these 2 niches. Next week I will get my guitar, and I'll make a blog, which will teach you how to play guitar. I never played guitar before, so I will teach everyone, while I am learning it. Sounds good ?
Most people I know that play guitar want someone who actually knows how to play guitar teach them. They don't want to learn from another beginner. If you want to blog about your guitar, I would do it as a personal blog and write about your journey to learn how to play the guitar. your successes, your frustrations, maybe even make a couple of YouTube videos of you learning different things that way people can visually see you progressing. Those are a few ideas, but I wouldn't exactly try to teach other people how to play the guitar if you don't know how to play it either.
Thanks for the honest reply. I think I will just make a personal blog about my journey to learn how to play guitar then
It may be a little unclear what I meant. I feel like you shouldn't come out and try to teach people how to play while you learn how to play. Instead, talk about your journey of learning the guitar, and as a result, people will inadvertently learn from your actions. They will learn how another beginner learns, what may work, what may not work, etc... So, in reality, you ARE actually teaching them, but not coming out and trying to sound like a guitar teacher and giving specific lessons. Hope that is a little clearer. I didn't want it to sound like I was knocking your idea.
Yes, I understand. Thanks so much RockDiesel I'm really motivated and excited about this project. I am thinking about using wordpress, and design a skin myself. Evantually I will slap some adsense ads in, so I make a little bit profit. I can't wait for my guitar !
