I should but I need allot of my programs such as Photoshop and MS Office 2007 which I just spent hundreds upgrading to.
One of the reasons why Linux is getting more and more popular on the desktop. check the video. http://www.keepdagru.org/index.php/post/2007/08/14/Compiz-Fusion-sur-mon-laptop
I tried to switch to Linux a couple of years ago, but found that I couldn't get it to work properly. I did a lot of searching on internet forums to try to fix the problem, but eventually had to give it up as a bad job. Basically I couldn't find anything online that would sort my problems out, and I couldn't find an expert who could pin it down. This experience put me off using Linux for the time being. But I'm always pleased to hear about other people trying out alternatives to Windows: the OS market is in dire need of more competition.
I am on Linux from past 3 years.. have used more then 10 distros of linux by now and now finally settled on OpenSuse 10.2
i tried to install Ubunto once, but the problem is i can't connect to the internet because of driver issue. but it's a great experience trying Ubunto for several hours. it's like i entered a new different world.
Thank you. Another question: Are their replacements for AutoCAD and 3DMax? It will take time studying new softwares again.
I don't know about autocad. But there is a approx. 3Dmax equivalient. It is call blender3D. I have written tutorials for blender as well.. http://www.ideacosmo.com/tutorial-blenderray.html http://www.ideacosmo.com/rhinoblender.html
I have made a website about cad programs for linux: h t t p : / / international . cad4linux . nl And i know from experience that bricscad 6.0 is the best replacement for autocad, but it's far from perfect. At bricscad they are now busy making a native linux cad program, it should be done by halfway 2008. I also switched permanently to linux, bud that was 5 years ago
Here are more Compiz Fusion videos on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=compiz&search=Search http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4Fbk52Mk1w
Those were awesome. I was wondering how much for that OS. I will be building a system pretty soon (its actually an experiment) and I would like to try an inexpensive Operating System.
I've been thinking about going with Linux (Ubuntu) on my laptop. I'm not sure if there would be a problem with drivers. It's an older laptop with 512Mb memory (the max) and a 700MHz processor. Maybe Linux would run better on it. Although XP ran fine, either way, I need to reformat and put something on it. Obviously Vista is out of the question.
