I ran across/posted on this thread over at WMW http://www.webmasterworld.com/webmaster_business_issues/3446804.htm Basically a couple of people selling links, then changing them to nofollow, and they seem to proud of it! One even cloaks the links as nofollow to google as a matter of course! Reminds me of people selling baking soda as drugs, or selling cinder blocks in taped-up boxes as 'hot' TV's for some reason...
That's not a good business practice obviously. It's not going to work in the long run. Sounds like a bunch of kids.
Even Google may get hard if they found you using such blackhat technique Google don't like it. "nofollow" = "notallowed" 11 Reasons for not using "nofollow" 1. nofollow does not prevent comment spam 2. nofollow is confusingly named 3. nofollow harms the connections between web sites 4. nofollow is not useful for humans, just for search engines using PageRank or a similar technique 5. nofollow could be used to shut web sites out 6. nofollow discriminates legitimate users as spammers 7. nofollow heists commentators’ earned attention 8. nofollow could be used to further discriminate weblogs< 9. nofollow prevents the Web from being a web 10. nofollow eliminates the dissemination of free speech 11. nofollow was developed in privacy with only search engines companies taking part in the discussion ref : nonofollow.net/11-reasons-against-nofollow/
I went through a client's paid links last month and found at least 2 site's have placed a nofollow tag on my links. It seemed to happen right around when Matt Cutts started warning link sellers. Now it's something I have to keep an eye on. I asked for a refund and to have the links removed...the advertiser agreed. Elee: get search status firefox extension...there's a setting that highlights all nofollows...in fact i'm looking at that pink ugliness right now. I have a question: why do sites use the nofollow in their internal links? Isn't that what the robots.txt is for?
I have a question: why do sites use the nofollow in their internal links? Isn't that what the robots.txt is for? It would depen on towards what pages they use it. Normaly You do not need to rank well for "about us", "contact us", and so on. This would give more "linkjuice" from the main page to the ones You want to rank well for. If they use it on all internal pages, they are just "plain stupid".
This is exactly the kind of thing that makes Google get tough on everyone, not just the low life's, pity Google cant be more selective on who they target for penalties.
One day follow will be the new no-follow is sick and twisted reversal done by Google. But on a serious note, those people that change to no-follow are pure scum of the earth. I hope they get outed on a place where have a stake to lose.
Use http://www.backlinkwatch.com/ And look for the no follows, very nice tool, same guys as digpagerank
I think nofollow has not much effect on google.I have found that google counts no follow links also. They donot matter to google. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Funny Commercials |Funny Riddles | Valentines Day | Funny Quotes
The Googlebot will follow the NOFOLLOW links, but Google doesn't allow rank to be passed from links that use the NOFOLLOW.
