Hi, I am in the process of moving servers and I am trying to do this as seamlessly as is possible. I have set up an account for my domain on my new server and can access it via ftp and view it via myserver.com/~accountname. Does anyone know how I can access my sites NEW cpanel on the NEW sever from the temporary sitename? I am wanting to import the database from the old sever onto the new and get the site up and running so that I can then change the DNS over. Or is there a much easier way that does not involve my new hosts doing this or my od host doing it? Thanks in advance. Hopper
ok, well cPanel makes this pretty easy. Log into WHM (2086) on the new server, scroll down to Transfers and click Copy multiple accounts/packages from another server Fill in your info for the old server and click Fetch Account List ON the next page will be a list of all your packages and accounts, select which ones you want to move. This will take some time, and wait for the pop up that says it's complete. Now you will have to go into WHM of the new server and configure/change the ip addresses, nameservers, etc. - then go to your registrar and make the appropriate changes. When you do a move this way, accounts are usually defaulted to the main ip address of the server, so if you have any custom nameservers set up, you will have to create them and assign them. Couple potential hiccups: Before the move, I recommend optimizing your databases, if you have any If you have any sites that are larger than 1G, this method may fail for these sites, if that happens, i will give you further instructions.
For accessing new cPanel on new server just go to your address bar , type newserverip:2082 & enter the login info . (example - 120.00.00.00:2082 ) That's it
Hi Cyanide, I have done as said above and when I enter the server address I get the following error message Do you have any ideas about what could be happening? You help is much appreciated.
Ahhh, I forgot to mention something... Make sure both servers are running the same version of cpanel. If not, upgrade them both, so they are the same. I recommend release version. Also do you normally login to shell using port 22 as root? - and is that what you typed in for the transfer?
Thanks for the help. Just another related but different query - if you don't mind? I have two reseller accounts that I am trying to move over to mu hosting the first one is giving me the above fault but the 2nd I seem to get almost there and then it says that . . the transfer failed because the ssl timed out. The sites cannot be packaged and the transfer failed. Do you know how I can extend the time limit for the transfer?
hmmm... not sure if i've seen that before. Are you logging in via the ssl port? (2087) ? - if so try non-ssl
