MillionDollarWiki, the site started by Graham Langdon, a student at the University of Connecticut is building Momentum after the hype on John Chow’s and Shoemoney’s blogs. It is a site much like Wikipedia, except each page is owned by someone. Each page costs $100. And Graham is planning to sell 10000 pages and earn a whopping 1 Million Dollars from it! Graham guarantees that the site will be live for 15 years. And that means your 100 USD investment will get you a page on this site for 15 years! After seeing the momentum building in last two days, I spent $100 and bought a page for the keyword, Online Money (http://www.milliondollarwiki.com/Online_Money). I am planning to use that page for running contests and giving away cash prizes. This kind of sites can sometimes bring a lot of traffic to your site or sometimes they are just a waste of money. So let’s see what this wiki page gives back.
im tempted to buy a page. But then again I could spend the $100 on building and marketing my own wiki site
Unless it gains momentum outside of the webmaster community I think it's going to be pretty futile. Unless of course you're using your page to market to webmasters.
Nice idea to make money, only that you should be able to get it to top in SERP's. By the way as ezyweb said you could make your own wiki site with those $100. He will take care of SEO and promotion of the site? Does he give any guarantee that he will make this site one of the top sites in a specified time?? I would like to know. Thanks for your response in advance.
How is this different than Squidoo or Hubpages besides the fact that it costs $100? Oh yeah, this has a guarantee from a college student that it will be around for 15 years.
So let me get this right....we buy a page for $100 and hope that the site goes viral and is a PR8 eventually with our page on top of the SERPs for our keyword we choose? Sounds like a crap shoot, but I guess you gotta get in early if you want a good keyword. Everyone that buys a page should give him a one way link from all your powerful sites.
It will have some buzz for a few months... though I can't see any long term benefit. $100 is not bad but you might only get some traffic if you are in their "top" pages... my guess is all other pages go the the way side. Anyway... genius marketing on his part... probably spend a few thousand for reviews on some top sites and now he is raking in the cash. Not bad. Just goes to show you how "some" get rich quick schemes still do work... ;-)
basically, you're buying a PR0 page for $100, hoping it gets somewhere (or hoping that the guy doesn't disappear off the face of the earth in a year with everyone's $) I cant understand why someone wouldn't go with an already established site like Hubpages that lets you do this for free...
I wrote about this a while ago. It's a genius idea, basically he is charging $100 for you to create content for his site. Which in essence is what he is doing. It's created buzz for months now. Webmasters are hoping that a page on the wiki will propel them up the search listing for their niche. Like similar ideas you have to get in early to make it worthwhile. No doubt buzz will fade and so will the serps.
other than the catchy name whats there to gain?? no PR no real traffic other than people like me checking out the hype thats guaranteed to die down.
Its been interesting at best. I have been keeping an eye on it since I first heard about it back in 06. If the data on the site is real, then he has already pocketed around $65,800 for the project and as far as the rate that the pages are selling its just getting started from what I see on recently purchased page.
Theres an old saying, "Don't knock the hustle". Sounds like most of you are doing just that. Too bad you didn't think of the idea, huh?
I don't think anyone is knocking the idea, the guy is making a lot of money after all. It's just that most people think it's a waste of money since there are cheaper promotion methods that have better benefits. Not to mention all the attention the site is getting is hype, there's no way it will sustain itself. In the end who is making money with this? The wiki owner and maybe a handfull of others, the majority wont recoup their investment.
There will be no - long term benefit as search engines rely on updated fresh content, not pages that don't change over 15 years. Good idea in theory and short term possibly a good investment
thumb up to the guy who came up with this. enough losers still want to make money online, so he might get real rich.
This is a long-term investment. In the end, it'll still be a PRed page to your name, with you in power of setting whatever outbound links you wish. A PR4-5 page with only your outbound link for 15 years, for $100 is pretty good by my standards. You're an idiot. It's a gamble. "Losers" are those who speak ill of an idea without exploring it. Like you. Even if the site doesn't go viral, it's still well worth the money. If the site does go viral, I'll Paypal you some money for a rope so you can hang yourself. As far as why people say nay, it's mainly the fact that it's $100 right away for 15 years time. It's the same as paying $0.56 a month for a link. Most people pay much more, for much less. It's the big sum that scares people.
$100 is worth it alone. The amount of people blogging about this, he could end up with PR7. That means inner pages like the ones people own turn PR6. That PR6 is a vital backlink to your site, or a good $500+/month income from link sales. Shame he doesnt accept paypal or i would already have a page
