Using Yahoo Answers to promote your site?

Sorry, if this might have been talked about already.

I posted in Yahoo answers an answer to a question that used a reference to my site as a link.

Is anyone else doing this? Have you gotten it to work?

I noticed that they don't display the answers right away or am I doing something wrong?

I've done that a few times, if it’s related to the answer there should be no problems.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that Yahoo makes any links inside an answer be no-index no-follow. In other words for SEO I don't think they would help at all. For driving a little traffic maybe, but I went through a stint answering dozens of questions and never saw more than one or two click-throughs in my log file. If you help with answers you are doing it for your own good karma, not for any kind of traffic generation IMHO.

Ask yourself this, how many web searches have you done where your answer was found on the Yahoo Answers site?

I havent done this myself but I have discovered that others have actually posted answers to questions and gave links to some of my pages. I found this out when I was looking at my stats one day. Ever since then I see hits coming for Yahoo Answers every so often.

I answered a number of questions about MySpace on YA and got quite a bit of traffic from it, and still do, although I have changed my site.

The traffic you receive is minuscule. Unless you have an automated replier, doing this is not worth your time/effort.

The whole point of Yahoo Answers is to post answers to questions. If the related link to your own site does in fact provide a good answer there is nothing spammy about this - it's no different than that site ranking well in the SERPS for a related query.

I have done this a handful of times and occassionally see traffic. I have also had my site used as a reference by others - THATS pretty cool.

I've posted my link a couple of times when it was very relevant to the question. I did read that Yahoo is kicking butt on this type of spam..... I bet they will be busy for a while :D

Traffic from yahoo answers is useless. People come into your site and quickly get out. It is not worth the hard work believe me.

The nofollow attribute only matters for Google.
So for SEO purpose, it can help you with Yahoo, MSN, Ask or other search engines who don't care about the no follow attritube.
