    Hi Guys!

I see in the services thread there are a number of guys who offer directory submission services at rockbottom prices and I see there are a number or people who buy them...

Apart from getting a report back saying "your submission has been successfull" has anyone actually had success with these? have your links increased? rankings? do you actually see the increase in links?

its the same as if you do it yourself. You build backlinks , you get better serps. All these guys do it get you alot more in a lot less time then if you did it yourself. I like working with them because the guy that i use does not charge too much and does it quick.

i try submitting directories by myself, and not that hard... and you can monitor and check for some good directories... some services use submitter, i prefer manual submission...

The links they are providing are almost all useless.

Sure, your websites gets backlinks but they don't do you any good if they are on directory's that don't have any backlinks.
I tried this kind of service ones just to see what they do and the outcome was bad, I was getting submission e-mails that look almost all they same, just diffrent domain. The directory's they use are most driven by the same script meaning the directory's you just got your submission from are ether free or bought scripts. If your going for higher google PR this will not help, you need to get submitted by custom made directory's with PR above 3 and of course they need to have backlinks in google.

So my advice is don't spent $10 for 100 directory submissions that are useless. You could buy at least 3 quality backlinks for $10 that might even bring you traffic, not just backlinks like many are focusing on these day! They just want backlinks, and don't even think if the backlinks are going to bring the site traffic/revenue.

    Google PR is not everything!

When I offer this service to my clients, I simply use the digiXMAS Directory Submitter. It has a submission list of a little over 1000 directories that use the php link directory script. I have one site that is being promoted almost exclusively with the digiXMAS software, and my Google Sitemaps Links section reports 752 back links. Some are on the same domain like this: so that's not to say that 752 sites out of ~1000 link to me. I don't see a lot of traffic from most of these directories, but my SERPs have improved.

If you like the advice, here's my affiliate link: digiXMAS Directory Submitter

I used submission services few times with the same result - from 200-300 submissions I get 2-3 back links. First of all many of these free directories are very low quality and even if they have some PR for the front page the actual page where your site will be listed may not even be indexed...
Most directories of better quality will reject these bulk submissions without even looking on your info.

Submitting your site to these directories will effectively help your site's PR in the long term.

The free version only has 200 PR0 sites in its submission list. If you buy a package (the cheapest is $15 for one site), you get the full list which is updated daily. The count is currently around 1045 sites ranging from PR0 to PR6. They have other packages available too. One package allows you to submit 10 different URLs and costs $100. The other package is $150 and allows for up to $20 URLs. Some of the sites on the list allow you to submit deep links (eg, http://www.after5webdesign.com/pldmods.html as opposed to simply http://www.after5webdeign.com), so even if you only have 3 or 4 websites, I'd recommend getting the 10 URL package so you can submit a few deep links as well.

The free version of the software does allow one really nice feature, and that the Truck mode which allows you to submit to non-php link directory sites. It's not as automated as the Shurikan(sp?) mode, but still slightly faster than roboform or the inform enter plugin for FF.

@WTM: I run several directories with the php link directory script, and the only way I can tell when a submission is a bulk submission is when it looks something like this:
Now, compare that with this submission:
Which one was manually submitted? Pretty obvious you say? Guess what? It's a trick question. Neither was submitted manually. One is obviously spam and was most likely submitted by a spambot script, but the After 5 Web Design submission was submitted with digiXMAS. Servers don't care what the user agent string says, they simply process information, and unless your script specifically grabs the user agent string (and assuming you beleive the user faithfully entered true information in their user agent string and didn't spoof IE or FF's user agent), you'd have no way of knowing what tools a user used to submit a link. So, if you think that sites rejected a bunch of your links just because you used an automated or semi-automated tool, you're probably mistaken. Either your tool was inadequate at category selection (which most automated programs are), or the link you were submitting wasn't a good quality submission. That's why I recommend digiXMAS. It has a good list of directories that is constantly updated, and it forces the user to select the category.

You must pay $15 to submit to all 1000+. The free service offers you only 150 PR0 directories. But in long term using this free service is also a good strategy.

I use free service for two of my sites and paid service for one.

Wow thanks guys for the replies.

It seems the results are prety mixed bag. I do not expect traffic from these directories no, I was wondering more in terms of Indexing and Backlinks in Google et al.

I design websites for my clients and am looking for a way to help them get indexed and ranked in SERPS and wanted to offer some directory submission options to them.

So the question here really relates to the "Link Directory Submision Services" seen advertised in the services section of the forum. Not dishing anyones services here, just want to know if I would be offering my clients any value by using these services (say the $10 option) on their new sites?

"Value" is the tricky part of your question, and in my opinion it relates to the "value" of their site. If they have a budget of $1000, then yes, there is some "value" in using a cheap $10 service. If they have a budget of $5000, then I'd use a more reputable service like Jim Westergren's. On the other hand if they give you $50 and a 12 pack, then don't even bother with the $10 service.

Or, to look at it another way, I could easily spend $10 to have someone submit my site to a few hundred directories, but I don't. Why? I feel my money could be better spent elsewhere. I'd rather pay $10 for one good link than $10 for a few hundred links that may never get spidered.

100% right. Greens your way. I know many people will red you and say against you for this, but you are right, the links from submission services are all useless. Dont go behind crap rumours. Dont stick to DP and see whats happening on the internet. The links which directory submissions services provide are -

    1. In between 100 other links.
    2. Not relevant.
    3. Some pages are not even indexed.
    4. Oh some directories ( a large number) dont even rank for their domain name.
    5. Homepage PR5 and internal pages PR0 and sometimes not even indexed.

You think ^^those^^ links are useful. I will better buy PR5 blog review from a relevant blog rather than 100 above links.

Send me a PM, I will point you to many links which you can buy with 10$ and which are better than directory submissions

It just depends on the lists they use and how they submit. If its done manually and they use a recognised list of free directories those links will work just as well as any paid link. The list I use is IVS and I just keep topping up every month. What you dont know is how long they will last and this is where your review directories may add value.

OK, all i can say is that i have reached th first page from the 5/6th page for my keywords after a batch of 500+ submissions, with around 200 approvals which i monitered

Directory submission is one of the most cost effective way to start your backlink campaign

You can easily buy a good package starting 50$, which otherwise is just loose change if you are looking to buy permanent links
