One thing that ive been thinking about is that an association that is for directories but leaves most of them out its mildly bizarre. The concentration could be towards getting others involved to encourage those to do business well and not to leave them on the outside. The voting should be done by non directory members not directory owners, that way you get more feedback from the users and directory owners are then able to find out what a user really wants, and business could expand because owners may start thinking more beyond what the other directory owners want.
Matt Cutts used to work for a company connected to the CIA so if you get him involved that really would be elite.
This is a great idea, Need time and dedication from all the members. 1. How will the Accreditation Association be funded ? 2. Will there be cost for reviewing the directory ? 3. Will there be process for finding dogey members who abuse thier privileges ? 4. Will you just add PR5+ directory or directory from all the PR ? Thanks
IMHO 1. How will the Accreditation Association be funded ? If there is a small fee, it would well be worth it! 2. Will there be cost for reviewing the directory ? If there is a small fee, it would well be worth it! 3. Will there be process for finding dogey members who abuse thier privileges ? There would have to be and a review of the directory could weed these QBC's out (I know, I know, the term is overused) 4. Will you just add PR5+ directory or directory from all the PR ? What is the obsession with PR here? PR has NOTHING to do with a quality directory!
I agree, a bid directory is not a quality directory. Its a directory where the person with the most money gets to the top. A quality directory has a review process, where sites have to pass minimum standards to be shown. I think Google are trying to make a point about this. Its not about finance its about quality.
But the top placements or first page go to the site(s) that has paid the most, not the best sites for the users of the directory. Or is the purpose just to promote advertising, or give someone a pr5 link to boost the pR ?.
Yes I registered the domain. I have a lot to work on with this, but I do plan on actually getting this going. A site should be up within a week and the committee should be reasy in about a week and a half. Yes we will try to include as many directories as possible, but out of 10,000 directories I would say maybe 500 are quality, so it's hard to have most of them. Yes I wish it could be done by all non-directory owners, but it is hard to find people that can be trusted that aren't on webmaster forums. So ideally, a mix of owners and non-owners will benefit the group the most. I am guessing that through donations, I would like to have an accreditation fee, but I don't know how that will go over very well with owners. We will constantly re-review submissions to make sure they follow guidelines, also we will encourage everyone to report listings that are breaking the "rules" We will not base anything on PR Per directory
This would be good if it works, but anything like this is a total minefield, the old saying "you cant please all of the people all of the time" is never more evident than in ventures such as this. Rather than having a bunch of separate organisations springing up, maybe all the guys looking to do this should get together and create one single one, this would carry a lot more weight than any of the 10 or so individual ones that are likely to arrive. The idea is great, but gaining the respect and authority the organisation would need to succeed is a serious ask, I wish you luck.
Good idea . . . If owners think their directory is 'quality', they shouldn't have a problem paying a small fee . . . Good choice and logical
The association will also need a secretary (A Nymphomaniac of course) and a treasurer, I think Nick Leeson might be between jobs and would relish such a role.
Heck yeah, I'm in! Doggie dentists cost WAY more than people dentists. Seriously, I think this type of association would be a good thing. Maybe any directory owner could join, but accreditation would be separate...that way those who don't meet the quality expectation can learn how to improve through constructive criticism and mentoring.
How about phone call verification of directory owner ? also what about credit card number discloser , and pin numbers hehe !!
