Price reduction rules

    Not sure what are the current rules about this, so maybe the mods can explain :)

    Are we allowed to list items for sale and then reduce the price every one-two days?
    For example something like this: $500 -> $450 -> $400 -> $360 -> $320 ..

    Would it be ok, or is it considered illegal bumping and what is the alternative then? How many reductions like that would you allow? Please don't say it's common sense as I've provided a clear example :)

    The idea is generally that the seller is obviously interested in selling as high as possible, but due to not enough interest he's forced to lower the price till someone claims it at bin.

    thanks

    I remember one of the mods (probably Smyrl) saying that it was permissible to reduce the BIN once. I'll try and find that post and give the link here once I do.

    I don't think it is possible to create a rule on how many reductions is reasonable since people have different standard.

    like a 500 dollar domain, i don't think a $30 off will make a huge different if no one shown any interest. However, some might think $30 is a lot of money.

    Wouldn't a low start Bid with a reserve just solve this issue?

    That way everyone wins,

    You get people bidding which keeps your thread active, BUT you also have a reserve to protect your arse :)

    Just my thoughts .....

    Thanks everyone for the comments, but I'd like to get the official answer from Smyrl, or other mods, before getting more infractions please ;)

    Hope this thread won't get ignored by the mods like some of my other threads..
    With all the respect, how can we follow rules if we don't know what they are?

    My advice to you MG is to start out with the price you are willing to take for the domain as the opening bid, that way you don't have to lower your price at all.

    Or do as Sundaybrew suggested and start with a lower bid.

    As far as an official answer, I think it depends on the individual case. Say you have dropped your price by $1-$5 dollars. Anyone who looks at the thread will realize that it is a bump to try and get more people to look at it.

    Now if you have a BIN set for $200 and realize no one is even remotely interested for that price, you could drop your price by half once to see if it stimulates some interest then.

    Each case is handled on an individual basis with your past infraction history being taken into consideration. If you have been warned of doing this in the past, then yes..here comes an infraction for doing it again. But if you have no previous infractions, most likely you will get a warning to stop doing it just to have your thread bumped back to the top.

    Just use common sense when it comes to pricing your things in the first place, don't plan on lowering your price more than once just to keep it active.

    I hope this helps!

    Ok - so then Its official

    and for others , that are lazy here you go

    Type posts subject to bumping infractions ( Source above )
    FYI:

    The following type posts or combinations of these types of posts typically receive bumping infractions.

    1. "Thank you." posts. (Thank you messaages can be put in a PM.)
    2. "PM sent." type messages.
    3. Sequential or count down type messages such as the following.

    * Sale ends in 5 hours.
    * Sale ends in 4 hours.
    * ...

    or

    * Three more slots available.
    * Two more slots available.
    * One slot available.

    4. Still accepting offers/bids. The presumption being as long as thread is open and member has not had thread closed or have statement to that effect the offer is still available. Similar type posts are: Any one?; Any one else?; All links approved, ...
    5. Multiple posts in a row where you can still edit the prior post.
    6. Posts restating info found in post above or previous posts such as
    High bid now $30.

    It is impossible to make an exhaustive list. This list is only designed to serve as a guideline. Always, ask yourself the following question before posting, If my competitor were to make the post I am about to make, would I report it as a bump? :)

    Having a friend to bump your thread by singing the praises of you or your product is inappropriate as well.

    Remember those who bump a thread, delete post and rebump (bump deleters) immediately receive nine bumping infractions for such practice.

    ok.. so no precise answers/rules and "common sense" as usual.. :)
    Of course I'm not talking about lame reductions of less than a dollar, but rather continuous reductions of 10% and up, as specified in my first post.

    Thanks for taking the time to reply :)
    So if I understand it right I'm allowed to do it (because that's what my common sense suggests me) ;)

    Mary and Katy, I'm actually trying to help you here, if there are clear rules specified you'll have much less and easier work as mods explaining them and implementing.

    Mary, I really don't know how else to ask a question, other than asking it and repeating it two times directly and all I get instead of an answer is a cynical unrelated comment .. I'm just trying to help you here, by clarifying the rules for everyone, why do you have to be so uncooperative? :)

    I'm just asking if what I've specified in the first post would be allowed, or would it be considered against the rules and likely receive an infraction.

    Since you gave me no precise answer, but replied with the "common sense" - I'm having to rely on mine, which tells me it should be ok... i would be glad to know if I'm wrong, or right...

    Did you not read my answer...or Katy's?

    I clearly said that you should not lower your price more than once and so did she.

    The rules here are simple. And if you can't follow them...or if you still need clarification after 2 years and 8K posts, well, I don't know what to say.

    DON'T F'N BUMP!
