    I have some ideas.

    http://www.zorg-links.com

look at the top sites listed there. All other bid directories owned by chris and lance, jeremy etc.

    Now go to webdirectorylist.com

you see my site and beacon there?

then you go to beacon....who is there? me, chris jeremy etc.

So you go to bigweblinks. who is listed there? me again. Chris has his sites listed there on the sidebar. So we go to cdhnow.com.

who is listed high there? suprise suprise suprise me, beacon, directorydump

    starting to see a pattern.

Here is where the theory begins. Google de-values link exchanges. Google does this with their clever algorithm powered robot, the googlebot.

Googlebot crawls the web, and finds all sites and their backlinks as we know. Not human edited, just a robot made to do things via human programming.

All sites with the same owner that are interlinked look like link exchanges. All sites listed on homepages of bid directories like mine, chirs', lance's sites etc may look like the link exchange of all link exchanges to googlebot.

How does googlebot know these are paid advertisements? They dont see the bid amount or have an algorithm to detect a bid directory do they? no, it could just be a huge homepage link swap for all they know.

Its just a theory i have. I just find it a big coincidence that sites that havent been banned arnt high bidders ( some are) and they dont interlink to a large extent.

    Your thoughts?

It's called interlinking. That's what we've been talking about.

Yeah, and i think it was automatic, not manually done.

There is not a lot that can be done to reverse it, if it is the reason behind it.

Einstein developed a theory that changed many events in physics,
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Einstein
But nothing much has changed since then and especially the events of the last few days have made little or no difference ;)
Speculation thats all this is :)

    Hardly.

If any of you had been paying attention over - oh I don't know, the last 3 years? - none of this should have been a surprise. Blatant PR trafficking. Blatant link buying and selling. Blatant interlinking aka link exchange schemes.

And then Google took action. Well, duh. What did you think was going to happen?

I know how it is difficult to find index or find those sitewide links by a bot etc.,

I am sure that directories has been penalized manually only

I guess one of the solution to avoid any bad surprise is to remove "directories" category from your directory...

Why would a bot have trouble finding sitewides

IMO sitewides are about as "above the radar" as it is possible to get :p

One thing "matt" had asked was that "sitewides" If for advertising then they wouldn't have any problem with "no follow" being used and/or
do like what was done on www.addurl-links.com (Not Ready yet ) where it just becomes the sponsored categories and sitewides are abolished/eliminated.

    thx
