I am looking for advice for seo on google. Over the last couple weeks I have lost nearly 800 backlinks. I didn't pay for any of these links. Many of the links were from forums, directory submission, and article submission. What else can I be doing to get more backlinks? And should I continue doing the same things as I go forward?
If u have good site with some visitors try out the referral programs.Most of the good sites provide this facility. You can also submit site to relevant directories.
My advise is to continue your link building and focus more on Relevant links on Status sites that have proven search engine respect! Social Bookmark sites are also proving to be an excellent source for your site as well! I have also seen a drop in forum links and alike but they are still an awsome source for strength at the moment!!I believe that the noose will tighten on obtaining links in obvious places and it will go to stricly hard links in proper locations that people place your link on!! The game will not change, you will just have to adhere to the sources that build your link portfolio as they change!! Keep watching the DP threads to see the changes and new methods as they come!! you say you lost 800 backlinks. Where are you getting that data from? Google is never good at providing backlink data so how are you figureing that you lost that many backlinks?
You are right that Goog has a weird way of showing Hard Links but you can just do a search in Goog for your URL less the www. to see the indexed pages of linked sites and you can see that number go up or down. These indexed pages are the strength of the position in alot of cases in your key terms and to judge your popularity!!
have you ever tried going to do follow blogs and leaving comments? google the 'do-follow' movement and you'll find a list of do follow blogs.
The algo certainly seems to be leaning heavily towards good unique content, keep your links related and your content fresh and focused ;-)
in the last PR up date even my sites lost most of the back links.. gradually the rankings also went down.. i guess that most of the irrelevant or bad quality backlinks were ignored..
